Role overview
This position is for a seasoned ICS / OT Cybersecurity Technician who will assist with cybersecurity operations for industrial control and operational technology environments in an Oil & Gas or chemical production setting. The work is practical and field-oriented, with frequent site activities inside a continuously operating 24x7 plant.
What the job involves
The technician will help maintain OT cybersecurity equipment, complete patching and antivirus refreshes, take backups, support restoration efforts, and execute field-level cybersecurity work across DCS, SIS, and other OT platforms.
Core duties
- Carry out both preventive and corrective maintenance for OT cybersecurity equipment.
- Apply patch updates and antivirus updates to OT assets already in service.
- Gather backups and assist with recovery for DCS, SIS, ICS, and related OT systems.
- Collect field asset information for DCS and non-DCS systems tied to projects.
- Perform site inspections, validate mark-ups, and help prepare as-built records.
- Support field-side ICS cybersecurity tasks such as cabinet lock upkeep, cable fault checks, cable removal, new cable installation, and general field housekeeping.
- Assist with the installation and swap-out of DCS, SIS, and ICS cybersecurity components.
- Stage spare parts and project consumables for DCS, SIS, and ICS cybersecurity work.
- Print, label, and affix network cable identifiers for OT cybersecurity assets.
- Support power cable routing and installation inside PPC, DCS, SIS, and ICS cybersecurity cabinets.
- Install communication cabling for new KVM units and organize monitors and workstations.
- Check and capture as-built nameplate details for installed OT equipment.
- Arrange and obtain PTW approvals for all field tasks.
- Work with the maintenance team for non-DCS assets and complete cybersecurity PM activities such as antivirus deployment, physical hardening, and Windows patching.
- Support physical protection measures, including USB locks and access-control checks.
- Complete daily PM work linked to ICS field activities and support collection of field asset logs.
Experience and qualification requirements
- A graduate degree or a 3-year diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, Mechatronics, Cybersecurity, Electronics, or another relevant field is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in Oil & Gas or chemical facilities with a focus on ICS / OT cybersecurity is needed.
- Experience of 5 years or more is preferred.
- Background in Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or chemical manufacturing environments is an advantage.
- Practical exposure to OT assets, DCS, SIS, ICS systems, site work, patching, antivirus updates, backup support, and asset hardening is expected.
- CCNA or Network+ certification is preferred.
- CEH, Security+, or CySA+ certification is preferred.
- At least one cybersecurity certification is desirable.
- Strong communication, coordination, and interpersonal abilities are important.
- The role requires readiness to work in a 24x7 industrial plant environment with substantial field activity.
