Key responsibilities

HR operations

  • Help manage HRIS and day-to-day HR workflows with accuracy, care, and a ministry-minded approach.
  • Keep employee records secure and confidential, handling information with strong stewardship and integrity.

Recruitment and onboarding

  • Support recruiting efforts so applicants experience a welcoming, Christ-centered introduction to Hume.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities that help new team members feel supported, prepared, and included.

Employee relations

  • Address HR-related questions with professionalism, compassion, and grace.
  • Help foster a workplace culture built on respect, unity, and biblical principles.

Benefits administration

  • Guide employees through benefit programs with clarity and care.
  • Provide prompt, servant-hearted support for benefits-related questions.

Compliance

  • Support adherence to employment laws while demonstrating fairness, honor, and ethical judgment.
  • Handle sensitive matters discreetly and with Christ-like humility.

Performance management

  • Assist managers during review cycles with clear communication and gracious guidance.
  • Support performance processes that balance accountability with encouragement.

Training and development

  • Coordinate growth opportunities that promote professional development and spiritual maturity.
  • Work with leadership on training aligned with Hume’s mission and biblical values.

Policy implementation

  • Support the development and communication of HR policies that reflect legal requirements and Christian ethics.
  • Help staff understand expectations in a way that encourages clarity, unity, and ministry alignment.

Health and safety

  • Back safety practices that protect the physical and spiritual well-being of staff and campers.
  • Assist with training and systems that help maintain a secure, healthy, God-honoring environment.

Candidate profile

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and an active commitment to the Christian faith.
  • A desire to use HR experience to support Christian ministry and further the Gospel.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in an HR Generalist role.
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices, employment law, and compliance requirements.
  • Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills marked by grace, truth, and respect.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with wisdom, discernment, and integrity.
  • Comfort working with HRIS platforms, Google Docs, and database tools.
  • Agreement with Hume’s Statement of Belief and willingness to follow its Standards of Conduct.
  • Ability to live on-site; housing is available.

Preferred background

  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Experience in camp, ministry, or nonprofit Christian environments.
  • Strong project management ability with a servant-leadership mindset.

Compensation
