Role Overview

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a critical role in supporting the internal client groups by delivering high-quality HR services that influence key strategies, bolstering a high-performance culture. This position provides tailored HR support to full-time employees, SLA roles, and contractors within Volkswagen Group Canada. Key responsibilities include coaching leaders and employees on onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, engagement, development, performance management, pay administration, recruitment, and the execution of diverse HR initiatives and projects that align with organizational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coach leaders to enhance employee development, engagement, retention, performance management, and relations, conducting meetings as necessary.
  • Guide managers on performance, policy adherence, disciplinary matters, and complex employee issues.
  • Collaborate with Legal Counsel and Organizational Development Manager on investigations and sensitive employee matters, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Manage leaves of absence including disability, maternity/parental, workers’ compensation, coordinating with external providers to facilitate safe return-to-work plans.
  • Assist leaders with workforce planning, securing approvals for recruitment of new or replacement roles.
  • Work alongside Talent Acquisition to ensure timely hiring of qualified and diverse candidates; prepare departmental announcements.
  • Facilitate effective onboarding by engaging new hires and managers in consultation and support meetings.
  • Oversee administration of temporary contract employees.
  • Coordinate with Total Rewards for salary recommendations, job evaluations, market analyses, and compensation adjustments to retain talent.
  • Partner with Organizational Development to conduct employee satisfaction surveys, recommend improvements, and implement engagement strategies.
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to HR policies, benefits, payroll, and leaves, serving as a primary point of contact.
  • Handle employee separations including terminations, retirements, and exit interviews diligently.
  • Support key HR initiatives relating to employee satisfaction, total rewards, training, development, and employer branding.
  • Collaborate with Payroll to ensure accurate administration of compensation changes, taxable benefits, and employee perks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Post-secondary qualification in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant HR experience supporting multiple business units.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities and extensive knowledge of provincial employment legislation.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders across organizational levels.
  • Comfortable presenting to varied audience sizes and championing change initiatives.
  • Exceptional time management and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency in English.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Collaborative team player with a supportive approach.
  • Competent project management skills to lead initiatives from inception to completion.
