Role Overview

The HR Specialist - Payroll & Benefits works with the HR Operations team to manage payroll processing, benefits administration, and daily support for employees and internal partners. The position plays an important role in making sure payroll is accurate, completed on time, and aligned with company policies and legal requirements.

Reporting Line

You will report to the Manager, HR Operations - Payroll.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run bi-weekly payroll for Canadian employees and ensure both accuracy and timeliness.
  • Check employee records and payroll inputs before payroll is processed to protect data quality.
  • Prepare Records of Employment and help respond to Service Canada questions.
  • Handle employee exits, including final pay calculations and unused vacation payouts.
  • Enter and upload variable pay items such as commissions, incentives, and other pay changes.
  • Assist with benefits administration and coordinate monthly invoicing with Accounting.
  • Support year-end payroll work, including reconciliations and preparation of reports and statutory forms.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to questions about payroll, benefits, and timesheet submissions.
  • Help maintain compliance and accurate payroll records.
  • Take part in payroll and HR improvement projects.
  • Manage general ledger postings and month-end reporting for all payroll transactions.
  • Review and reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts each month.

Candidate Profile

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in payroll, benefits, accounting, or HR operations.
  • Payroll certification such as PCP is considered an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and payroll-related tax filing.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and payroll platforms such as Dayforce or similar systems.
  • Strong accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Comfort handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this role in Canada is CAD 66,500 to CAD 92,000. Final pay will depend on the location, relevant skills, experience, knowledge, and job-specific qualifications. Additional Information

This is a replacement position. The role is remote in Canada, with a preferred location of remote Canada and no alternate location listed. On-call work is not required, and travel is not required.
