Job description

Role overview

The HR Generalist will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function, supporting hiring, interviews, payroll-related administration, performance processes, benefits, leave management, and policy enforcement. This position also acts as a cross-functional partner to evaluate organizational needs in areas such as talent management, compensation, career growth, performance, and manager effectiveness.

Benefits administration

  • Respond to employee questions about benefits such as medical, dental, vision, FSA, dependent care, HSA, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, COBRA, and 401(k), with assistance from senior HR team members when required.
  • Assist with the company’s open enrollment cycle under the guidance of the VP of HR and Senior HR Manager.
  • Support technical HRIS-related needs, including carrier file feeds and EOI (Evidence of Insurability) tasks.
  • Coordinate with benefits vendors to help ensure employees have a smooth and positive experience.
  • Own wellness program initiatives and manage the associated budget.

Compliance and leave management

  • Carry out routine HR duties tied to compliance, compensation, benefits, and leave administration.
  • Review data, identify patterns, and work with business teams on action plans related to performance, retention, and engagement.
  • Help maintain adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and recommend best practices for policy and process compliance.
  • Stay current on HR trends, legal updates, best practices, and new technologies connected to HR, talent management, and employment law.
  • Support leave-of-absence administration for the VP of HR and Senior HR Manager when needed.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned.

HRIS

  • Help optimize and maintain the organization’s HR information system for US payroll operations.
  • Keep employee records accurate and current, with help from other HR team members as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance to HR colleagues and employees.
  • Build, maintain, and improve HRIS processes and procedures to support efficient system use.
  • Work with HR partners to understand requirements and create system solutions that meet business needs.
  • Train users and provide guidance so they can navigate the HRIS effectively.
  • Partner with HR and other stakeholders to simplify and improve HR workflows.
  • Contribute to HR projects focused on systems and process enhancements.
  • Act as a contact for HRIS questions, resolving issues quickly or escalating them when appropriate.
  • Perform audits and data validations to find and fix inconsistencies or errors in the HRIS.

Talent acquisition and onboarding

  • Support ABH talent acquisition activities based on requisition volume.
  • Track mandatory and optional training, continuing education, work assessments, safety training, anti-harassment training, licenses, exams, and certifications.
  • Recruit, interview, and help hire qualified candidates for open roles, working with hiring managers to define the needed skills and competencies.
  • Arrange or manage background checks and employment eligibility verification.
  • Deliver new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Monitor employee referral activity or help implement a technical solution for tracking.

Performance and employee relations

  • Answer employee and supervisor questions related to employment matters, escalating sensitive or complex issues to senior HR leadership.
  • Assist with disciplinary reviews, disputes, investigations, performance management, productivity, morale, recognition, safety, and training/development matters.
  • Participate in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, with supervision from a senior team member when needed.
  • Support annual performance reviews, compensation activities, and policy implementation efforts.

Requirements and qualifications

  • Strong communication style with the flexibility to adapt and the ability to plan work effectively.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills and a consistent track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Good analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and communicate tasks clearly.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Solid understanding of employment laws and regulations.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite or similar tools.
  • Ability to learn the company’s HRIS quickly or already be proficient in it.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills for system support.
  • Careful and accurate handling of HRIS data and configuration changes.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current on HRIS best practices.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • At least 3 years of human resources management experience is preferred.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification is an advantage.
  • Spanish bilingual ability is a plus.
  • Experience with Paylocity is a plus.
  • Primary on-site location is Pico Rivera, CA, with the ability to work from other locations when needed, including Mar Vista and Beverly Hills.

Compensation and benefits

This role includes a full benefits package, 401(k) plan with company matching, and bonus eligibility. The starting hourly pay range for the selected city is $27.00 to $36.00 per hour. Actual compensation can vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location.

Additional information

The position is based on-site in Pico Rivera, California, with occasional work required at other company locations. The role is bonus eligible.
