Job description
Role Overview
The Housekeeping Operative at UPMC Whitfield Hospital is responsible for delivering exceptional cleaning services in alignment with infection control protocols to maintain hygiene and safety standards across the hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize personal protective equipment consistently when conducting cleaning and disinfecting tasks.
- Thoroughly clean patient rooms and bathrooms, employing approved hospital detergents, with fresh cloths per room and correct disposal or laundering of cleaning materials as per infection control guidelines.
- Sanitize all furniture, fittings, and high and low-level dusting areas.
- Maintain hygiene in bathrooms including toilets, cisterns, brushes, basins, mirrors, showers, and replenish consumables.
- Vacuum and mop floors including difficult-to-reach corners and edges.
- Clean communal areas such as offices, day rooms, sluice and linen rooms, nurse stations, staff changing rooms, bathrooms, lifts, receptions, corridors, and stairwells.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is sanitized and properly stored after use.
- Collaborate with housekeeping supervisors, facilities manager, ward managers, and other personnel to uphold cleanliness standards.
- Adhere to color-coded cleaning systems and segregation of materials.
- Follow infection control procedures when cleaning isolation rooms and handling blood or body fluid spills, coordinating with nursing staff.
- Display caution signage during cleaning duties and comply with all reasonable requests from supervisors.
- Be adaptable to cover other hospital areas as needed.
Personnel Conduct
- Comply with uniform policies and produce necessary proof of training and experience when requested.
- Respect hospital organizational values.
Quality & Safety
- Engage actively in cultivating a safe and quality-focused work culture.
- Work alongside managers to plan, monitor, and enhance quality programs.
- Participate in audits according to JCI, hospital policies, and lean methodologies under audit supervision.
Health & Safety
- Exercise responsibility for personal and others' well-being by adhering to safety guidelines and promptly reporting hazards or incidents.
- Attend annual fire and health & safety training sessions.
Information Governance
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and staff information, ensuring records are secured and only accessed or discussed in authorized manners during job duties.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum education of Leaving Certificate level or equivalent.
- Experience in cleaning equipment and designated areas by following recommended cleaning schedules.
- Capability to work independently and cooperatively within teams.
- Excellent customer service aptitude and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage stress effectively and prioritize time efficiently.
