Role Overview
UPMC Kildare Hospital is seeking a part-time permanent CSSD & Endoscopy Decontamination Operative responsible for the thorough cleaning, disinfecting, packing, and sterilizing of medical instruments using both manual and mechanical techniques to maintain exceptional service quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical decontamination of used medical devices ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Conduct inspections and functional tests on devices, promptly reporting any irregularities to the CSSD Manager.
- Inspect and assemble instrument sets and equipment for sterilization with attention to detail.
- Load and unload sterilizers like autoclaves, ensuring proper sterilization of instruments and packs.
- Examine sterilized packs for any damage or moisture prior to storage.
- Manage distribution and storage of sterilized equipment in designated locations.
- Monitor autoclave and washer/disinfector performance parameters and report malfunctions.
- Carry out daily and weekly quality testing on sterilization and cleaning equipment including heat sealers and ultrasonics.
- Diligently record all relevant data with clear identification in official logbooks.
- Maintain compliance by keeping records aligned with department policy and EU legislation.
- Archive documentation securely according to national and European standards.
- Assist with stock management by replenishing sterile supplies and handling raw materials.
- Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention protocols and safety policies, including use of PPE.
- Follow health and safety standards and report any workplace incidents promptly.
- Participate in computerized or manual traceability of reusable medical devices as a quality measure.
- Complete monthly hygiene audits and uphold the highest hygiene standards daily.
- Keep the workspace tidy and clean, reporting any lapses in cleaning routines.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.
- Guarantee all CSSD equipment is checked by qualified users per hospital procedures.
- Demonstrate initiative, be open to new developments, and contribute to problem solving.
- Ensure clear communication, including accurate delivery of messages to the CSSD Manager.
- Mentor and support new technician staff, while taking responsibility for own professional development and training.

Compensation & Benefits
