Job description

Role overview

An opportunity is available for an energetic and committed Band 2 Housekeeper to work on Delivery Suite and Triage at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. This position focuses on keeping ward supplies organised, supporting environmental cleanliness, and helping the unit run smoothly day to day.

What the role involves

The Housekeeper will make sure consumables are stocked, stored properly, and readily available for staff across the unit. The post also includes helping maintain a clean patient environment, supporting ordering processes, handling basic administrative tasks, and using computers confidently.

Key duties

  • Keep consumable stock levels sufficient to meet the needs of the service.
  • Ensure equipment in the department remains clean and in proper working condition.
  • Help move patients and equipment when required.
  • Provide non-clinical support to the unit team under the supervision of Registered Midwives.
  • Contribute to a safe, tidy, and hygienic environment for patients and staff.
  • Support patient nutrition by assisting with the ordering and delivery of meals and catering supplies.
  • Maintain adequate ward supplies so the unit can function effectively.

What the team is looking for

The ideal candidate will bring strong communication, planning, and teamwork skills, along with a genuine commitment to improving patient experience. The role suits someone compassionate, dependable, and able to work well in a busy and demanding healthcare setting.

Compassion and communication expectations

The organisation places compassionate care at the centre of its work. All staff, whether clinical or non-clinical, are expected to treat patients, families, and colleagues with dignity, empathy, and respect. Clear, considerate communication and a patient approach to concerns are considered essential parts of the role.

Hospital Transformation Programme

The service is scheduled to relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of the Hospital Transformation Programme. This move is intended to bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose-built facility to improve patient care and the staff experience. Candidates who are appointed will be expected to transfer with the service in early 2028, following a formal change-management process with consultation and support.
