Job description
Role overview
An opening has become available for a Housekeeper to support the Emergency Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. This role is central to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming setting for patients, visitors, and staff.
What you will do
You will work as part of the department team, helping to keep the area well maintained and responding to the changing needs of a busy emergency environment. The position requires someone who can work independently without constant supervision, organise their own tasks, and adapt quickly when priorities shift.
You will also be expected to manage stock levels in the department, including placing orders when needed, while maintaining a consistently high standard of cleanliness throughout the area.
Skills and experience needed
The hospital is seeking a dependable, energetic, and hard-working person with strong communication and organisational abilities. You should be comfortable interacting with patients and communicating with colleagues at every level, both in person and by telephone.
Experience in cleaning work, including the use of chemicals and equipment, is essential. A sound understanding of health and safety is also required because the role is based in a demanding clinical environment. Basic IT skills are necessary, and prior experience in stock control would be an advantage.
Additional information
This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
Poppy’s Promise Commitment
The trust expects all staff, clinical and non-clinical alike, to treat patients, families, and colleagues with dignity, empathy, and respect. Compassion is expected to be shown through clear, kind communication, attentive listening, and an understanding of individual needs and circumstances.
Strong communication is considered essential to safe and high-quality care. Team members are encouraged to explain information clearly, take time to understand others, and respond to concerns with patience and sensitivity. By joining the organisation, you are expected to support these values in every interaction.
