House Parent

About the Role

The House Parent position at Hilsden House in Regina, SK, offers the opportunity to work full-time in a group home setting supporting youth and individuals facing complex behavioural, developmental, and mental health challenges. This role is vital in fostering a secure, nurturing, and welcoming home environment and upholding high standards of cleanliness, nutrition, and resource management. You'll play a central part in both day-to-day care and building positive household routines.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and implement monthly menus that meet health guidelines and dietary needs.
• Cook nutritious, quality home-style meals, snacks, and baked goods, also participating in special event meal preparation as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized household, ensuring a comfortable living environment for all residents.
• Offer empathetic and attentive support to residents, especially those with complex requirements.
• Coach individuals in essential life skills including personal care, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and social interaction.
• Document care and daily activities in alignment with agency expectations and timelines.
• Offer positive feedback and helpful direction during daily routines, working closely with the team and unit leader.
• Uphold agency values through appropriate behaviour modelling and promoting fairness in interactions.
• Manage food, supply budget, and related expenditures, including purchase and records reconciliation.
• Follow safe work practices and all applicable policies and regulations.
• Handle other allocated duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma required; additional specialized courses in cooking, food safety, or communications considered an asset.
• Minimum one year’s experience in large-group meal preparation (e.g., family, institutional, or group living).
• Experience with children, youth, or adults with special needs preferred.
• Proficient in baking and cooking; ability to create meal plans for dietary restrictions.
• Working knowledge of the Canada Food Guide and budgeting basics.
• Household management and cleaning proficiency.
• Well organized, capable of prioritizing tasks effectively.
• Adept at written and verbal communication.
• Demonstrates emotional intelligence, patience, inclusion, and willingness to learn.
• Comfortable using computers for records and reports.

Additional Information

• Completion of all required training to be up-to-date with agency standards is mandatory.
• Must possess a Class 5 Novice 2 or higher driver's license and qualify for the agency’s commercial vehicle insurance.
