Job description
Role Overview
Great National South Court Hotel is hiring a dependable and vigilant Night Porter to join its Front Office team in Raheen, Limerick. The position is part of the overnight team and focuses on delivering excellent guest service while protecting the safety, security, and overall comfort of guests and the property. The ideal candidate will work well without supervision, pay close attention to detail, and help maintain a professional, welcoming atmosphere.
This is a night-shift position scheduled from 11:30pm to 7:30am.
Key Duties
- Take over the shift with a full handover from the manager on duty and the front office team.
- Welcome guests, provide door service when required, and ensure consistently high service standards during their stay.
- Respond quickly and politely to guest questions, concerns, complaints, and special requests.
- Carry out guest check-in and check-out duties, including assistance with luggage and porterage.
- Clean assigned hotel areas, including public spaces, food and beverage outlets, and other sections requested by the manager on duty or listed on the nightly checklist.
- Set up, prepare, replenish, and service function and meeting rooms to the required standard.
- Serve residents in the lobby bar area.
- Collect breakfast room-service cards each night and prepare trays for the morning service.
- Answer switchboard calls and manage them in a professional, courteous, and efficient way.
- Secure and reopen the premises at the appropriate times.
- Turn lights off and on at the correct times.
- Complete the night porter checklist before the shift ends and pass relevant updates to Reception or the Early Duty Manager.
- Remain alert at all times and prioritise the safety and security of guests, staff, and yourself.
- Follow emergency procedures, know who to contact, and take the correct first steps if an incident occurs.
- Perform regular security checks throughout the hotel building.
Requirements
- Prior experience in hospitality is required.
- Experience working as a hotel night porter or in front office operations is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and also contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Friendly, approachable manner when dealing with guests and colleagues.
- Strong customer service and telephone communication skills.
- Basic working knowledge of software such as Microsoft Word and email.
- Fluent English is required.
- Must have valid permission to work in the EU or a current visa that allows EU work.
