Role overview
Bayshore is seeking compassionate Home Support Workers to join its team in Wiarton, Ontario. In this position, you will help create meaningful moments for clients by delivering care that makes a real difference in their daily lives. Responsibilities
Working under the guidance of the immediate supervisor, you will deliver personal care and daily living assistance according to the care plan or assignment sheet. You will also help maintain client comfort, dignity, and safety while following internal and external standards of practice.
- Deliver personal care based on the care plan or assignment sheet while supporting the client’s emotional, spiritual, physical comfort, and safety
- Carry out personal care tasks within the provincial scope of practice, such as skin, hair, and mouth care; bathing; bowel and bladder care; repositioning and mobility assistance; exercise; basic wound care; feeding, including special diets; oxygen assistance; and medication reminders
- Perform client-specific procedures when recognized training and current competency are in place
- Monitor client status, document observations according to company standards, and escalate unusual incidents or changes to the supervisor or office
- Follow infection prevention practices
- Take part in internal or external continuing education activities
- Follow Bayshore policies and procedures
- Contribute to quality management and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support proactive health and safety practices and report hazards or concerns to the supervisor
- Protect client and company confidentiality and share information only with the appropriate Bayshore team members
- Carry out other assigned tasks as needed
Skills and abilities
This position calls for strong communication, sound interpersonal ability, physical capability for hands-on care, and the judgment to follow instructions accurately. You must be comfortable working both independently and with a team, and able to travel between assignments locally.
Requirements
- Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English or French
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Physical ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and reach without restriction
- Capacity to lift up to 23 kilograms and assist clients with standing, walking, sitting, and repositioning in bed
- Ability to follow written and verbal care instructions
- Willingness to travel locally between assignments
- Secondary school graduation or an equivalent credential
- Home Support Program or related coursework preferred
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle for commuting
- At least 1 year of recent personal care experience in a similar role, or comparable life experience involving similar duties
Workplace standards
The Home Support Worker reports to the Clinical Manager where applicable and is expected to demonstrate ongoing competence in all responsibilities, along with any agreed goals and objectives. Performance is reviewed continuously, with a formal review after the three-month probation period and then at least annually.
Additional information
Depending on provincial regulations and the specific role, new hires may need to provide proof of vaccination against illnesses such as COVID-19, Hepatitis, and seasonal flu. Medical exemptions and other requests based on Human Rights Code grounds will be reviewed individually.
