Role overview

American University of Sharjah is seeking a full-time professor-level faculty member to hold the Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Endowed Chair in Women’s Leadership. The appointee will help advance research, teaching, and community engagement focused on women’s leadership, gender equity, empowerment, and broader social impact. This role is part of a rolling-track faculty appointment in an academic unit that matches the selected candidate’s expertise.

What the role is expected to do

  • Contribute scholarship that deepens understanding of women’s leadership, including leadership in multicultural settings, social justice, and advancement in the UAE and the Gulf region.
  • Strengthen intellectual exchange by organizing and participating in outreach events such as public conversations, workshops, and symposia that connect scholars with the wider community.
  • Design and support innovative leadership initiatives that help women build confidence, influence, resilience, and practical leadership strategies.
  • Promote women’s concerns and gender equity within the academic environment.

Qualifications and academic expectations

The university is looking for a scholar with a PhD or other terminal degree in one of the disciplines represented across AUS’s four colleges/school. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of high-quality research and educational contributions in women’s leadership, clear teaching excellence, demonstrated leadership ability, and awareness of the region’s cultural context. The person appointed should also be able to contribute at undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and/or professional levels.

Application materials

Applicants are asked to provide a cover letter of up to two pages explaining their vision for the endowed chair, interest in the role, and how their background in women’s leadership makes them a strong fit. They should also submit a one- to two-page statement describing their contributions to advancing women’s leadership and their plans to engage internal and external communities in support of the chair’s vision, along with a CV that includes teaching experience and publications, a teaching philosophy statement, and a research statement.

Timeline and start date

Applications are reviewed as they are received. For strongest consideration, candidates should submit materials by February 8, 2026. The position will remain open until filled. The preferred start date is on or before August 15, 2026.
