About the Role
Join the team at the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA), recognized as the 2nd best employer in Ireland in 2025 according to The Sunday Independent. We are inviting compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistants (Personal Assistants) to become part of our expanding team serving Carndonagh and its surrounding areas in Donegal.
Working Hours and Contract
The role is offered on a part-time basis with 25 hours per week on a fixed term contract. Availability is required across mornings, lunchtimes, evenings, and bedtime during weekends, including every alternate weekend.
Role Purpose
This position aims to empower members to maximize their independence in daily activities by providing support in personal care, household duties, social and educational assistance, travel, and companionship. The work is community-based, conducted within members’ homes and environments.
Collaboration
Effective liaison and coordination with other home support staff, Assisted Living Service Coordinators, and scheduling personnel are crucial to successfully carrying out this role.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Mandatory QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support or equivalent social care qualification.
- A full, clean driving license is essential.
- Applicants must have a smartphone to check in and out of visits.
- Candidates should embody a kind and caring attitude, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate flexibility.

Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage ranges between €16.21 and €18.03 based on experience.
- Higher rates before 8 AM and after 8 PM: €20.26 - €22.54 per hour.
- Sunday pay between €24.32 and €27.05 per hour.
- Public holiday rates from €32.42 to €36.06 per hour.
