Healthcare Assistant

Role overview

West London NHS Trust is seeking a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join its Adult Community Nursing Service, supporting care delivery across the Hounslow area from the Bedfont Clinic, Imperial Road in Feltham, England. This is a practical, patient-facing role within a community nursing setting where compassionate care, strong teamwork and a willingness to develop clinical skills are essential.

Working pattern

The service operates every day from 07:00 to 19:00, however the successful candidate will work 08:30 to 16:30 and will not be required to work weekends.

What the role involves

You will support registered nurses by completing delegated duties, carrying out clinical tasks after appropriate training and competency sign-off, and escalating any changes in a patient’s condition promptly. The role also involves communicating effectively with patients, families and wider healthcare professionals to support joined-up care.

Clinical duties

• Perform clinical observations and routine monitoring, including blood pressure, pulse and temperature checks.
• Carry out venepuncture where trained and authorised.
• Complete urinalysis and blood glucose monitoring.
• Assist with simple wound dressings.
• Support non-complex care activities such as continence reviews.
• Take on additional clinical skills as required by the service, following training and assessment with mentor support.

Teamwork and communication

• Work under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse.
• Report changes in patient condition without delay and in a clear, timely manner.
• Coordinate with other healthcare and multi-agency professionals to contribute to multidisciplinary care.
• Communicate with patients in a way that is appropriate to their individual needs and encourages positive health outcomes.
