Role overview
InisCare is looking for a full-time Healthcare Assistant based in Dublin 7. The organisation believes that excellent home care starts with supported, respected caregivers and a compassionate leadership team. The aim of this position is to help customers remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes while receiving dependable and professional support.
What the role involves
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will assist the customer with daily living needs and personal care. Typical duties include helping with bathing or showering, dressing, continence support, meal preparation, and light household tasks. The role is centred on delivering care with dignity, respect, and a person-centred approach.
Key responsibilities
- Follow the latest safety and moving-and-handling procedures at all times.
- Escalate any concerns about the customer or a colleague’s unsafe practice to your manager.
- Report any safeguarding issue, or anything you believe may be a safeguarding concern, without delay.
- Keep daily shift records accurate, factual, and complete.
- Protect customer confidentiality in every aspect of the role.
- Attend any training arranged by InisCare and operate within safe professional boundaries.
- Carry out care tasks such as medication prompts, personal care, and meal support in a respectful, dignified manner.
- Support the customer’s independence and encourage them to make their own choices where possible.
- Maintain professional conversation and engagement with the customer throughout the shift, regardless of verbal or cognitive ability.
- Arrive for scheduled shifts on time and inform the office promptly if you are delayed or unable to attend; the customer should not be contacted directly.
Qualifications and training
The role requires a QQI Level 5 Health Care Award, or an equivalent qualification. Additional mandatory online training includes Children’s First, Safeguarding, Dementia Training, GDPR Training, AMRIC Basics of Infection Prevention and Control, AMRIC Hand Hygiene, and putting on and taking off PPE in Community Healthcare, all through HSE LAND.
Skills and competencies
Successful candidates should bring practical care skills, strong communication, and a caring, dependable approach. The position also calls for teamwork, adaptability, attention to detail, physical stamina, and a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality.
