Health Technician (Office Automation)

About the Role

The Department of War Education Activity (DOWEA) seeks a Health Technician specializing in office automation to work part-time onsite in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The role involves administering first aid to students, managing health records, and supporting medical professionals with routine health assessments within a school environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide routine and emergency first aid including wound cleansing, dressing application, bleeding control, CPR, and adherence to first aid protocols.
• Dispense prescribed medications in predetermined dosages.
• Monitor student vitals and appearance to assess need for further medical attention, rest, or dismissal from school.
• Maintain supplies of dressings, antiseptics, and other essential first aid materials on site.
• Manage accurate and secure student health records consistently.
• Produce routine correspondence related to health matters.
• Communicate effectively with parents, school principals, and medical staff regarding student health statuses.
• Assist healthcare professionals in conducting routine health tests and document results.

Employment Conditions & Requirements

• Male applicants born after 31 December 1959 must complete Selective Service pre-employment certification.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship required; applicants must not be ordinarily resident under applicable Status of Forces Agreements.
• Direct deposit setup for pay is mandatory.
• A probationary or trial period up to one year may be enforced.
• Suitability and fitness determinations via background investigations, including Tier 1 and childcare checks, are required due to contact with minors.
• Compliance with Department of Defense directives including drug testing and employment in foreign areas is mandatory.
• CPR certification must be obtained within three months of hire.

Qualification Criteria

Eligible applicants include current DoWEA civilian employees, Department of War staff, defense industrial base personnel, certain family members, and individuals under specific employment preference programs.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following to qualify:

• Six months of general experience demonstrating ability to perform position tasks, plus six months of specialized experience applying first aid procedures and wound care.
• Completion of two years post-secondary education including at least 12 semester hours in relevant health-related fields like nursing or medical technology.
• A combination of education and experience totaling 100% of the required qualifications (calculated as months of experience divided by 12 plus semester hours divided by 60).

The role demands typing proficiency at 40 words per minute with minimal errors; testing may be required.
