Position Overview

We are seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager based in the Cork region to oversee professional management of health and safety operations at Breedon Ireland. This role ensures robust compliance with all relevant legislation and drives continuous improvement of H&S standards throughout the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as part of an integrated team to safely deliver company objectives, supporting a unified team philosophy.
  • Promote and embed a proactive health and safety mindset and culture among personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with current health and safety legislation, tracking and implementing regulatory updates.
  • Lead development and rollout of best practice policies and procedures aligned with H&S and Quality & Environmental management systems.
  • Oversee direct reports on health and safety matters, providing guidance and coordination.
  • Assist in establishing and applying new health and safety procedures to prevent recurrence of accidents.
  • Provide advice concerning health and safety system implementation regionally.
  • Ensure all company health and safety employees adhere to protocols, escalating concerns as needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive monthly audits with reporting of findings and progress to senior management.
  • Compile safety data and information for external reporting purposes.
  • Verify legal appointments for quarries, constructions, and personnel comply with standards.
  • Review safety documentation from clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring their adherence to company safety plans before engagement.
  • Update safety documentation continuously as work progresses or incidents occur.
  • Monitor enforcement of safety plans for employees and subcontractors, reporting issues to management.
  • Identify and communicate safety, health, or welfare concerns to contract and quarry managers before site departure.
  • Advise site leaders on adequacy of safety measures, equipment, and certifications.
  • Execute site inspections, documenting findings in reports.
  • Engage with external bodies on health and safety matters as required.
  • Delegate health and safety responsibilities to qualified individuals.
  • Lead and oversee incident investigations and follow-up actions, preparing reports for both internal and external use.
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory government agencies and monitor emerging health and safety laws to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Chair regional health and wellbeing meetings, developing action plans and ensuring timely dissemination of minutes and assigned tasks.
  • Fulfill other reasonable duties as necessary within the role's scope.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree or qualification relevant to industrial health and safety management, ideally holding a NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety Management.
  • A minimum of five years' experience managing compliance-focused health and safety roles.
  • Proven expertise in designing, investigating, and implementing compliance systems, preferably aligned with ISO45001 standards.
  • Capacity to develop practical, effective systems that meet external accreditation standards and integrate smoothly within company operations.
