Role overview
The Health & Safety Officer will help maintain a safe and healthy environment for employees and visitors in a logistics warehouse. The role focuses on putting health and safety procedures into practice, keeping them up to date, and ensuring they meet legal requirements and company expectations, including ISO 45001 standards. This position also supports managers and team members in building a strong safety culture and reducing accidents, injuries, and workplace hazards.

- Experience in investigating accidents and incidents, recording findings, identifying root causes, and suggesting prevention measures.
- Ability to plan and deliver safety training, workshops, and toolbox talks to improve awareness and compliance.
- Competence in preparing emergency response plans, running drills, and supporting readiness for evacuations and other emergencies.
- Skill in reviewing safety data, spotting patterns, producing reports, and using findings to improve performance.
Responsibilities
- Support compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act across warehouse operations.
- Create, update, and roll out health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols in partnership with operations managers and in line with ISO 45001.
- Carry out routine inspections and audits to spot hazards and confirm that safety standards are being followed.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety performance, share recommendations with management, and review progress regularly.
- Contribute to tools and reviews such as risk and opportunity matrices, SWOT analysis, and PESTLE reviews.
- Review key safety policies, including driving in the warehouse, use of charging equipment, and working at height.
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and first-aid cases, including corrective actions and statistical reporting.
- Work closely with management and employees to increase awareness and strengthen the safety culture.
- Deliver training on safety procedures, equipment use, and emergency response.
- Keep detailed records and documentation for incidents, inspections, and training activities.
- Track and measure the effectiveness of safety initiatives and recommend improvements where needed.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and take part in safety meetings and industry forums.
Qualifications required
- A recognised qualification in health and safety or a closely related field is essential.
- Strong knowledge of local health and safety legislation and compliance requirements is required.
- Previous experience in logistics, warehousing, or a similar environment with a health and safety focus is preferred.
- Comfort using safety management systems, incident reporting tools, and data analysis software is needed.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills are important for this role.
