Role overview

The Group Payroll Specialist will handle end-to-end payroll support for Primeline’s operations in Ireland and the UK. The position covers both weekly and monthly payroll runs for around 1,100 employees, with a strong focus on accuracy, legal compliance, and on-time delivery.

Core responsibilities

  • Run weekly and monthly payroll cycles across multiple legal entities in both euro and sterling.
  • Use Sage Payroll and BrightPay to manage payroll processing.
  • Carry out payroll payments through online banking systems.
  • Apply PAYE rules and payroll compliance requirements for both Ireland and the UK.
  • Respond to payroll questions from employees and internal stakeholders, ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
  • Handle payroll-related benefits and deductions such as BIK, pensions, healthcare, and salary sacrifice arrangements.
  • Keep payroll files, records, and supporting documents accurate and audit-ready.
  • Prepare and post payroll journals to the correct entities and cost centres.
  • Produce payroll reports and review the information for management use.
  • Work closely with HR and Finance to make sure data is correct and consistent.
  • Contribute to payroll initiatives, system upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Take on general payroll administration and other ad hoc tasks as required.

Essential criteria

  • At least 2–3 years of experience in a payroll administrator or payroll specialist position.
  • Experience managing high-volume payroll, ideally across multiple entities.
  • Practical knowledge of Sage Payroll and BrightPay.
  • Good understanding of PAYE, payroll compliance, and tax rules in Ireland and the UK.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including analysis and reconciliations.
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Clear communication and strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Comfortable working independently and also contributing within a team.

Desirable experience

  • Exposure to payroll processing across both the UK and Ireland.
  • Familiarity with payroll audits and reporting.
  • Experience working with finance systems or general ledger integration.
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement.
