Job Overview
The Assistant Officer role in Health Safety & Environment (HSE) is pivotal to safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of personnel within the organization. This position entails managing the implementation of safety protocols, ensuring strict adherence to industrial safety standards, and effectively handling hazardous waste management compliant with OHSAS policies.
Working closely with the HSE leadership, the incumbent will develop and implement safety plans, conduct routine inspections, and guarantee availability and enforcement of personal protective equipment (PPE). Strong communication skills will facilitate coordination across departments and support comprehensive safety training and record maintenance for audits and incidents. Dedication to nurturing a safety-conscious culture and pursuing continual enhancements defines success in this capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections at sites to verify conformity with safety procedures and work instructions.
- Plan and manage inspections for critical lifting equipment such as EOT and mobile cranes with site operation and maintenance teams.
- Implement and track monthly HSE management plans including health, safety, and environmental checks coordinated with the HSE lead.
- Maintain PPE availability and enforce safe working methods, particularly for high-risk activities.
- Conduct daily induction safety training for new contractors and employees.
- Prepare and deliver daily reports summarizing tasks, dispensary activity, incident investigations, and training data to the HSE lead.
- Submit comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly HSE data reports for analysis and action.
- Maintain effective communication with functional and plant heads concerning HSE matters through appropriate channels.
- Train and sustain a proficient firefighting team across the plant; organize regular safety committee meetings involving department heads.
- Coordinate quarterly safety audits across plants, generate thorough reports, and ensure audit compliance.
- Verify firefighting equipment upkeep, maintaining service records per Indian Standards.
- Collaborate with vendors and procurement regarding external fire safety services following commercial protocols.
- Lead National Safety Week campaigns to enhance participation and awareness.
- Support HSE lead in awareness initiatives such as Road Safety Week, Fire Service Day, and Environment Day.
- Coordinate with the HSE lead and plant heads to conduct monthly mock drills, fire drills, and firefighting demonstrations.
- Engage external service providers for inspection and testing of lifting devices and pressure vessels complying with Government Financial Rules.
- Liaise with governmental agencies to ensure full regulatory compliance on safety standards.
Experience and Competencies
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience is required. Key proficiencies include business and commercial acumen, entrepreneurial skills, global mindset, people excellence, hazardous waste management, industrial safety norms, and compliance with OHSAS standards.
Key Interactions
In the course of duties, the Supervisor will engage with auditors, change management teams, cross-functional collaborators, customers, employees, internal communication channels, liaison officers, and training and development units.
