Health Safety Environment Officer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) Administrator to join CEVA Logistics in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This position focuses on reinforcing safety, health, and environmental standards in a dynamic logistics operation. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee QHSE activities within the Container Freight Station (CFS), including management of health and safety committees, fire marshals, and first aiders, ensuring documentation, action tracking, and communication are maintained effectively.
• Enhance safety visibility by conducting regular walkthroughs of warehouses, yard operations, cargo handling, weighbridges, and traffic routes, promoting safety culture through toolbox talks and behavior-based engagement.
• Assist in preparation, review, and closure of risk evaluations, workplace inspections, equipment safety checks, emergency preparedness, and corrective actions associated with CFS activities.
• Support incident management including reporting, investigation, and follow-up of accidents, near misses, damages, unsafe conditions or acts, customer complaints, and process deviations to ensure proper resolution.
• Manage QHSE-related data and reporting such as statutory plans, licenses, certificates, medicals, emergency drills, environmental compliance, and inspections through collaboration with government agencies and service providers.
• Maintain the Integrated Management System (IMS) by controlling documents, audit records, and other evidence aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards, supporting internal audits and management reviews.
• Identify training needs, coordinate internal awareness sessions and external training for emergency preparedness teams and operational staff, while keeping accurate training records.
• Coordinate safety onboarding, workplace inspections, PPE adherence, supplier safety reviews, and protocol implementation for suppliers, contractors, and transporters within the CFS.
• Initiate practical improvements to enhance safety culture, reduce risks, improve housekeeping, emergency readiness, and compliance within the operational environment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience supporting QHSE operations in logistics, transportation, warehousing, port, terminal, or cargo handling sectors.
• Proficient understanding of risk assessments, incident reporting, inspection procedures, emergency response, PPE standards, statutory compliance, and document management.
• Competency in Microsoft Office, reporting, record keeping, action tracking, and basic data analysis.
• Strong communication skills, teamwork, attention to detail, assertiveness, problem-solving abilities, and capacity to influence safe workplace behavior.
