Role Overview
The Health Safety Environment (HSE) Officer role is a full-time position based on-site in Garu. The individual in this role will be responsible for developing, executing, and supervising health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures within mining operations. Daily duties include performing risk evaluations, conducting safety inspections and audits, leading toolbox talks and safety briefings, and recording incidents, near misses, and subsequent corrective measures.
Additional responsibilities involve training personnel on safe operational practices, ensuring compliance with Ghanaian safety regulations and company standards, and working alongside management to enhance HSE performance. The officer will also manage emergency response planning, maintain safety records, and advocate for a proactive safety culture on site.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Proven expertise in Health & Safety and Workplace Safety with hands-on experience implementing safety programs in industrial or mining contexts.
- Knowledge of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Occupational Health including environmental protection strategies and health risk management for workers.
- Possession of NEBOSH or an equivalent professional certification in Health Safety Environment, indicating familiarity with international safety standards and best practices.
- Understanding of Ghanaian HSE regulations, incident investigation processes, and methodologies for risk assessment.
- Effective communication, training abilities, and report-writing skills capable of promoting safe practices across organizational levels.
- Academic qualifications including a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related disciplines; mining sector experience is a plus.
- Capacity to operate on-site in remote locations, manage priorities under pressure, and proficient use of basic HSE software alongside Microsoft Office tools.
