Job description

About the Role

The Health & Safety Advisor will own the development and ongoing upkeep of the site health and safety programme. This role is designed to strengthen site culture by building strong working relationships and encouraging active involvement from key people across the site. The position reports to the Site Manager and is backed by the national Health & Safety team.

This position was previously listed as Health and Safety Coordinator and has been redefined as Health & Safety Advisor to better match the needs of the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape and champion a strong health and safety culture by forming effective, collaborative relationships with site representatives, including the Health & Safety Committee.
  • Oversee, roll out, and communicate the health and safety framework, improvement plans, and all company and legal requirements.
  • Keep the health and safety strategy current so it continues to protect employee wellbeing and safety.
  • Take the lead on investigations and follow-up actions after serious incidents.
  • Track compliance across all health and safety functional areas.
  • Improve and streamline the injury management process while ensuring the site remains committed to it.

About You

The ideal candidate brings substantial health and safety experience, preferably from a manufacturing environment. You will be a key part of the site leadership group and must be comfortable presenting health and safety priorities and direction in a way that wins support from employees. Experience in developing health and safety policies, particularly around critical risk activities, will help you identify and drive ongoing improvements.

  • A health and safety qualification plus 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in a similar position.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety business solutions.
  • Ability to balance safety and production priorities and create practical solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Leadership capability and a proactive approach to building a culture aligned with Silver Fern Farms values: Unstoppable Together, Improving Tomorrow, and Always Caring.

  • Paid sick leave starts from day one, with no need to wait for the 6-month anniversary.
  • Heavily subsidised health insurance.
  • Confidential employee support for career planning, financial advice, and counselling.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Full uniform provided.
