Position Details

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is seeking a full-time Health Care Aide to join the clinical team at Grace Hospital's Operating Room unit. This role is governed by CUPE union regulations and offers a day, evening, and weekend shift schedule. The anticipated start date is August 14, 2026, with an indefinite term and a full-time equivalent of 1.0. Work hours are 7.75 hours per day, totaling 2015 annual base hours.

Salary is structured in incremental steps starting at $23.187 up to $26.800 per hour.

Role Description

Reporting to the Manager of Health Services, Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Health Care Aide will be an integral member of the health care team. Responsibilities include assisting in patient care and delivering basic supportive services under supervision, while embodying the vision, values, goals, and standards of the WRHA.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum education of Grade 10 as per Manitoba standards.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Prior patient care experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn about the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Principles of Routine Practices including Universal Precautions.
  • Familiarity with regional, site, and unit policies.
  • Clear grasp of health care team roles and responsibilities.
  • Exceptional oral and written command of English; Indigenous language proficiency and knowledge of Indigenous traditions and values are advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
  • Effective communication skills and teamwork orientation with readiness to seek guidance when needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously.

Physical and Employment Conditions

  • The role involves significant physical activity including lifting, transferring, and transporting patients and equipment.
  • Employment conditions require a satisfactory Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check; any expenses for these are the candidate's responsibility.
  • Security checks must be no older than six months at the start of employment.
  • Note that an employee cannot hold multiple WRHA positions surpassing a total 1.0 FTE.
