Position Summary
The Health and Safety Officer will report to the Health and Safety Manager and is tasked with enforcing policies and procedures that comply with both legal mandates and company health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and regularly update health, safety, and environmental policies in compliance with local, national, and industry regulations.
- Communicate these policies effectively to all employees.
- Perform hazard identification and risk assessments within the workplace and evaluate control measures, recommending improvements as needed.
- Design and conduct training programs on health, safety, emergency response, and use of protective equipment.
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents; determine root causes; prepare detailed reports; and develop preventive strategies.
- Carry out regular safety inspections and audits to monitor compliance and address violations with corrective action plans.
- Formulate and maintain emergency response plans including evacuations, first aid, and crisis management; conduct drills to test their effectiveness.
- Implement environmental protection initiatives such as waste management, pollution control, and energy conservation.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies to ensure ongoing compliance and keep management informed of legislative updates.
- Foster a strong organizational culture of safety and environmental consciousness through continuous communication of HSE initiatives and best practices.
- Collect, analyze, and report HSE data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related discipline.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of practical experience in health, safety, and environmental fields.
- Professional qualifications related to the role are advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety legislation and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills.
