Job description

Role Overview

An established medical device manufacturer in Shannon, County Clare is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to take ownership of site-wide health and safety operations. This is an individual contributor position with responsibility for tightening processes, improving compliance, and keeping safety practices aligned with regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make sure workplace health and safety procedures are fully aligned with permit conditions and licensing obligations.
  • Work closely with local regulatory authorities and the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Manage and improve incident reporting workflows, ensuring timely escalation within the business and to outside parties such as the Health and Safety Authority and insurers.
  • Prepare and present structured compliance reviews.
  • Carry out routine audits, safety inspections, and environmental checks to maintain required standards.
  • Organise the practical arrangements for training sessions and workshops whenever needed.
  • Review current safety controls regularly and strengthen risk reduction measures where required.
  • Assist management and help foster open communication between leadership and employees on safety-related matters.
  • Keep records, reports, and documentation accurate, complete, and well organised.

Requirements

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in health and safety.
  • Proven ability to manage compliance requirements and meet regulatory standards.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Quality Management, or a similar field.
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH or ISO Lead Auditor will be viewed positively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Good working knowledge of ISO standards.
  • High attention to detail and confidence in report writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
