Opportunity Overview

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join the team at New Zealand's first Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) facility located in Wellington. This role offers a front-line position with approximately 80% fieldwork, emphasizing safety compliance related to advanced sludge treatment operations, process safety, risk management, and achieving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement, oversee, and audit safety management systems to ensure adherence to company and legislative standards.
• Integrate critical safety protocols including Permit to Work, Lockout Tagout (LOTO), and High Risk Management Standards.
• Manage critical control systems, escalating deviations appropriately.
• Support operational teams with tools to handle critical risk assessments.
• Conduct scheduled inspections and audits ensuring compliance with all relevant requirements.
• Communicate updates in legislation, standards, and regulations to relevant stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation such as Job Safety Environmental Analyses (JSEAs), Risk Registers, SOPs, and Emergency Plans.
• Deliver injury prevention and wellbeing initiatives alongside SHEQ-related training.
• Encourage a culture of safety through toolbox talks, hazard reporting, and employee interactions.
• Monitor, analyze, and report high-risk factors and safety performance metrics.
• Collaborate effectively within the SHEQ team and maintain constructive relationships with management, staff, and external parties.

Qualifications and Experience

• New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety (Level 4) or equivalent qualification.
• NZISM Practitioner Accreditation is required.
• Experience with process safety, lockout/tagout procedures, and managing change in safety contexts.
• Sound knowledge and practical application of safety legislation and systems.
• Current driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• ICAM Lead Investigator Training.
• Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessing.
• First Aid certification.
