Job description
Role overview
This is a senior leadership position reporting two levels below the CEO in a lean, ASX-listed FMCG organisation that has spent the past three years redesigning its business. During that time, the company has refreshed its leadership group, simplified its brand portfolio, and made technology a core driver of growth.
The business has already completed a significant operational reset and is now moving into its next stage. A mid-market ERP rollout is in progress, Salesforce is live and expanding across field and key account teams, and an active AI and automation programme is already embedded in day-to-day operations.
AI tools are available to all employees, a structured community of practice is in place, and this leader is expected to actively push the agenda forward rather than rely on external providers to do it for them.
Operating environment
The organisation has fewer than 200 employees and a flat, startup-style culture. In this environment, the Head of Technology shifts constantly between setting direction and delivering execution. The role includes direct exposure to the board on cyber and technology governance, and the leadership group is relatively new, with most executives having been in their seats for less than two years.
This is a business in motion, and that is intentional.
Role scope
Reporting to a senior executive, this person will take full ownership of the enterprise technology landscape, including cybersecurity, platform oversight, data and AI enablement, and strategic management of external technology partners.
Key accountabilities
- Oversee cybersecurity, technology risk, and governance, including reporting directly to the board
- Shape the enterprise technology strategy and supporting architecture
- Provide strategic direction across ERP, Salesforce, system integrations, and cloud platforms
- Lead the business-wide use of AI, automation, and smarter workflow design
- Strengthen enterprise data and integration capability
- Manage key technology vendors and strategic service partners
- Define the post-ERP technology operating model and future team structure
Candidate profile
This opportunity is not suited to someone whose background is limited to infrastructure leadership, governance-only roles, or large teams with heavy delegation.
The strongest fit will bring most of the following:
- Established technology leadership experience in FMCG, retail, consumer goods, or pharmacy
- Practical involvement in a mid-market ERP implementation, with hands-on decision-making rather than only vendor oversight
- Confidence presenting cybersecurity risks and controls to the board without needing a dedicated CISO beside them
- Experience building AI or automation solutions with business stakeholders, not just approving strategic plans
- The ability to translate technology into commercial results such as trade spend ROI, working capital improvement, service levels, and adoption metrics
- Comfort operating as the most senior technology leader in a small team environment
- Prior Salesforce exposure, especially in a consumer goods or commercial setting, would be a strong advantage
Compensation and opportunity
- Remuneration of up to $250,000 base salary, plus 15% STI and superannuation
- Direct access to the board on cyber and technology governance matters
- A credible pathway toward a CIO-level role
- A well-funded technology agenda with less bureaucracy than a large enterprise
