Head of Technology

About the role

Kainos is looking for a senior technology leader to help steer the business’s technical direction and shape decisions at an executive level. The position plays an important strategic part in aligning technology choices with sector and practice priorities, while helping the company stay commercially strong and future-focused.

This role is also about championing people development, advising senior stakeholders and clients, and representing Kainos within the wider technology community. You will help create an environment where technical talent can grow, innovation is encouraged, and technology investments support long-term goals.

What you will do

• Set the technology direction and provide executive-level technical guidance across the business.
• Coach, mentor, and develop technical talent while promoting wellbeing and inclusion.
• Support succession planning and help build the next generation of technology leaders.
• Evaluate strategic opportunities and make recommendations that can shape medium- and long-term business plans.
• Partner with innovation and business development teams to validate strategic analysis.
• Oversee the technology budget and align investments with business strategy.
• Review and contribute to sector and practice technology strategy.
• Spot business development opportunities where current or emerging technologies can solve client or market problems.
• Engage senior clients as a trusted technical advisor and strengthen long-term relationships.
• Translate complex technical ideas into clear, accessible language for non-technical audiences.
• Represent Kainos externally and promote its technology viewpoint across the broader ecosystem.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic partners.
• Help shape go-to-market ideas with partners and introduce new partners to the business where appropriate.
• Research technology shifts, assess emerging tools and approaches, and recommend strategic investments in skills, capability, and partnerships.
• Be accountable for delivery-focused information security across the organisation.
• Own bid and delivery assurance responsibilities and support teams in planning ahead for delivery.
• Handle strategic delivery engagement and manage exceptional escalations.

What we are looking for

• Experience defining a technology vision and leading change across multiple disciplines.
• The ability to balance people leadership, customer outcomes, and commercial considerations.
• A continuous-improvement mindset applied to processes, people, and technology usage.
• Proven accountability for a range of technology delivery challenges, such as services projects, multi-team programmes, or packaged products.
• Experience influencing and building relationships at C-suite level.
• Creative and innovative thinking applied to new offerings and accounts, with strong commercial judgement.
• Ability to prioritise effectively across several major projects and deadlines.
• Demonstrated success in managing, coaching, and developing both direct team members and wider communities.
