Role Purpose

As the first dedicated talent leader at Pylon, you will establish and grow our internal talent recruitment engine, moving away from reliance on costly external agencies. This role demands building a scalable, efficient, and high-quality hiring process that consistently attracts and retains outstanding engineers and operators, shaping the company's culture and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead an in-house sourcing and recruiting operation to reduce agency dependence and hire a small team as needed.
• Guard and nurture Pylon's distinct company culture emphasizing customer focus, ambitious thinking, craftsmanship, and results-oriented delivery.
• Prioritize recruiting top-tier engineers who manage critical mortgage technology systems involving AI/ML and operations research, then expand rigorous hiring practices across other departments.
• Implement full-cycle hiring measures including structured interviews, scorecards, and efficient decision-making ensuring both speed and quality.
• Create and maintain Pylon's employer brand and candidate experience to attract and impress target talent.
• Standardize onboarding and develop retention mechanisms including growth paths and feedback systems to keep top performers engaged.
• Manage recruitment technology, metrics, and reporting ensuring data-driven decision-making in headcount planning, compensation, and HR operations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building or scaling in-house talent acquisition in fast-growing startups, especially recruiting technical and hard-to-fill engineering roles.
• Strong hands-on ability to source and hire elite engineers, while designing scalable recruiting processes for teams.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to challenge leadership constructively and make data-informed hiring decisions.
• Skilled storyteller capable of selling Pylon's mission to ambitious candidates.
• Commitment to culture and retention, measuring success by the quality and longevity of hires.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, high-pressure setting.
• Bonus: Experience in fintech, regulated industries, reducing agency spend, managing distributed sourcing teams, and scaling rapidly during capital raises.

First 90 Days Plan

• Initial 30 days: Understand hiring standards, review interview processes, analyze pipeline and spending, and identify inefficiencies.
• By 45 days: Launch in-house sourcing, replace costly external dependencies, implement structured interview frameworks and improve onboarding.
• Within 60 days: Establish measurable engineering pipelines, develop hiring and budget plans, and initiate recruitment team hires.
