Overview
Dangote Fertiliser Limited seeks an experienced leader to spearhead its environmental sustainability and climate initiatives. This role involves overseeing all ESG activities in alignment with Dangote Group's strategic framework and regulatory mandates, driving sustainability programs, enhancing HSSE systems, and monitoring ESG outcomes. The position requires engagement with regulators, partners, and internal stakeholders to advance the company’s sustainability commitments globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute DFL’s sustainability strategy focusing on climate mitigation, carbon reduction, adaptation, and compliance with international standards such as UN SDGs, TCFD, GRI, ISSB, UNGC, and IFC Performance Standards.
- Establish corporate sustainability policies adhering to best practices and regulatory demands.
- Manage, mentor, and build capacity within the ESG team through training and collaboration.
- Advise senior leadership and board members on environmental and climate-related issues.
- Collaborate with HSSE, engineering, operations, and other teams to integrate sustainability into daily business operations and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Drive compliance culture by implementing policies, procedures, and training programs across the organization.
- Lead identification and management of environmental risks including biodiversity, water security, emissions, and other risks related to climate change.
- Conduct climate risk assessments and develop mitigation measures.
- Supervise emissions baseline studies and target setting aligned with Net Zero objectives.
- Develop GHG Data Inventory according to ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, and IPCC standards.
- Create ESG reporting frameworks, dashboards, and KPIs for consistent performance tracking.
- Prepare comprehensive sustainability reports for Board and stakeholder review.
- Engage stakeholders such as regulators and government bodies to promote sustainability goals.
- Represent the company at external sustainability forums and provide expert guidance.
- Manage sustainability budgets and resources and undertake additional strategic assignments as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 10 years of proven expertise in environmental sustainability, ESG reporting, climate risk handling, and corporate planning within industrial, manufacturing, or energy sectors.
- Strong knowledge of GRI, CDP, UNGC, IFRS S1 & S2, ISSB, and TCFD frameworks.
- Hands-on experience in GHG accounting spanning Scopes 1, 2, and significant Scope 3 emissions alongside science-based target development and enterprise ESG systems.
- Track record of leading cross-functional sustainability initiatives and integrating HSSE within organizations.
- Experience liaising with regulators, development partners, and board-level stakeholders to enhance ESG compliance and reporting.
- Proven involvement in climate-related project development such as decarbonization, low-carbon investments, fleet transitions, carbon capture, and sustainable agriculture.
- Additional advantage for candidates holding professional sustainability certifications like CPD Reporting Certification.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence board members on ESG matters.
