Role Overview
The Head of Strategy & Operations for Wealth & Trading will lead and oversee daily wealth operations to ensure smooth and secure trading activities for millions of clients. This leadership role involves developing and executing processes and controls that maximize effectiveness, minimize operational incidents, and ensure compliance with regulations and client asset protections.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with global teams managing wealth and trading operations.
- Establish and uphold comprehensive first-line operational controls such as maker-checker systems, reconciliation tasks, exception handling, and user access management.
- Work alongside Customer Support, Compliance, Risk, and Finance departments to facilitate regulatory and transaction reporting, as well as safeguarding client funds.
- Contribute to risk evaluations, audits, and regulatory inspections, crafting actionable remediation plans.
- Lead the investigation of operational incidents, near misses, and issues affecting clients; implement root cause analyses and enforce lasting solutions.
- Develop and monitor key risk and performance indicators, delivering clear reporting for senior leadership.
- Manage the onboarding and ongoing relationships with third-party operational partners such as brokers, custodians, middle-office teams, and data suppliers.
- Ensure thorough understanding and management of contractual commitments and operational dependencies.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least eight years of operational experience within securities businesses, including fintech firms or brokerage environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of trading and post-trading processes across various asset classes like equities and ETFs.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and validating robust operational controls.
- Familiarity with Australian or comparable regional brokerage regulatory frameworks, or aptitude to quickly master new regulatory requirements.
- Comfortable working with data analysis and basic tools such as Excel, business intelligence software, and SQL.
- Capacity to operate successfully in dynamic, fast-growing settings while managing multiple demands effectively.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of fixed income securities, derivatives, foreign exchange, and/or investment funds.
