Role overview

Book of the Month is hiring a creative social leader to own the company’s social media presence. The right person will combine strategic thinking with hands-on content creation, using a strong feel for internet culture and platform-native storytelling to grow the brand and support business goals. This position touches creative direction, marketing, and strategy, and may be filled at either Manager or Director level.

What you will do

  • Build, refine, and run the social media strategy across channels, with clear business goals and a test-and-learn approach that avoids unfocused posting.
  • Keep a close watch on culture, trends, and shifts in the industry, then turn those insights into social content that fits the brand.
  • Guide the creation of social content by working closely with the Creative team and outside freelancers.
  • Develop, produce, and publish original, platform-specific content for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and other emerging platforms.
  • Plan and manage the content calendar, including hands-on production support such as filming and appearing on camera when needed.
  • Write briefs and shape content so it resonates strongly with the audience and performs well on attention-based metrics.
  • Track results regularly, share clear performance updates, and connect social metrics to broader business outcomes.
  • Work with the growth team on collaborations that increase reach and engagement.
  • Represent the brand externally at industry events, social gatherings, and with culturally relevant partners and stakeholders.

What you bring

  • At least 5 years of professional, hands-on creative experience in social media and/or content creation, ideally within a media company, agency, or consumer/lifestyle brand.
  • Strong creative instincts, original thinking, and the confidence to develop, pitch, improve, and execute ideas.
  • Ability to interpret content performance and turn data into practical creative direction.
  • Excellent communication skills and the flexibility to adapt style while protecting a distinct brand voice.
  • A strong point of view, sharp editorial judgment, and a good sense for what will connect with the Book of the Month audience.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver innovative social strategies that account for the strengths and nuances of each platform.
  • Deep familiarity with internet culture and commercial fiction.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $250,000 per year, reflecting the fact that the company is open to hiring at either manager or director level.

Additional information

This is a full-time, onsite role based in New York, NY.

The role calls for someone who can think strategically while also creating content directly, including being on camera when needed.
