Role Overview

The school is hiring a Head of Science to lead its Science faculty across IGCSE and A Level programmes. This is a senior leadership position suited to an experienced science educator who can set the direction for a high-performing department, guide specialist teachers, and help shape the future of online science education.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining academic standards across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring consistency in teaching quality, and supporting the use of new technologies, including AI, in science education.

Key Responsibilities

• Take charge of the Science department and manage subject teachers across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
• Lead the design and delivery of the curriculum for Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International IGCSE and A Level Science courses.
• Maintain high standards in teaching, assessment, feedback, and student progress.
• Support students who are working beyond their expected year level and help them achieve strong outcomes.
• Promote the effective use of AI and other digital tools in science teaching and learning.
• Support teacher growth through classroom observation, feedback, coaching, and targeted professional development.
• Participate in school-wide leadership, strategy, and decision-making.
• Work with parents, students, and prospective families to present the quality of the school’s science offering.
• Contribute to extracurricular opportunities such as clubs, competitions, Olympiads, and enrichment activities.
• Help uphold a pastoral culture that keeps students safe, included, and well supported.

Requirements

• You must hold current New Zealand teacher registration.
• You should be a qualified teacher with substantial secondary-level Science teaching experience.
• Strong subject expertise is required in at least one of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
• Previous experience leading a department or faculty is expected.
• Knowledge of IGCSE and A Level Science, especially Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International, will be an advantage.
• You should have a strong record of high academic performance and of extending advanced learners.
• Interest in how AI can improve student learning is important.
• Confidence in teaching and leading online, along with strong digital skills, is needed.
• You must be willing to contribute beyond the classroom.
• A collaborative, growth-oriented approach and enthusiasm for working with motivated international students are essential.
