Job description
About the company
IQ LAB is an Australian energy intelligence and procurement platform that helps businesses gain better control over their energy usage and costs. The platform combines energy monitoring, bill checking, demand analysis, contract management, procurement, and Scope 2 reporting in one place.
The business works with a wide mix of customers, including large multi-site operators, hospitality groups, and major infrastructure and commercial organisations. The company is building a differentiated offering in the energy market and is looking for someone to help accelerate growth.
This is a hands-on role in a small, ambitious team rather than a highly structured corporate environment. You will be expected to build relationships, open new opportunities, meet businesses, attend industry events, and play a part in shaping how the company expands.
Role overview
The company is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Business Development Manager with solid exposure to the Australian energy sector. The focus of the role is generating new business across SME and C&I customers, with sales across the company’s software platform, energy management solutions, and procurement services.
What you will do
- Create and manage your own sales pipeline.
- Meet prospective clients in Melbourne and travel interstate when needed.
- Run product and software demonstrations.
- Review customer energy portfolios and identify commercial opportunities.
- Sell SaaS subscriptions along with energy management solutions.
- Develop business across energy procurement, monitoring, bill validation, and related services.
- Attend trade events, conferences, and partner meetings.
- Build durable relationships with clients and industry partners.
- Work closely with the founders on sales strategy, product feedback, and growth plans.
Working style
The role offers flexibility in how you organise your week. Some days may be based from home, others spent with clients, at events, or working with the wider team. The business focuses on outcomes rather than desk time.
Candidate profile
The ideal person is commercially sharp, self-driven, and able to work independently without constant supervision. You should be proactive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of your work.
Required experience and background
- At least 3 years of experience in the Australian energy industry.
- Strong understanding of SME and C&I energy markets.
- Background in energy broking, energy management, energy procurement, or a similar field.
- Good knowledge of electricity contracts, energy data, and commercial energy customers.
- Strong ability to develop business and build relationships.
- Confidence presenting to business owners, CFOs, procurement teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to understand software products and explain technical solutions in commercial terms.
- Experience in selling SaaS, technology, or energy management platforms is a strong advantage.
- Disciplined CRM usage and strong pipeline management skills.
- Genuine interest in helping grow a business and being part of its development.
What is on offer
- Competitive base salary.
- Car allowance.
- Tiered commission with no cap on earnings.
- On-target earnings of more than $200k.
- Hybrid and flexible work setup.
- An extra paid day off for your birthday.
- Up to 20 working days each year from a location of your choice, including overseas.
- Opportunities to travel and attend industry events.
- Direct exposure to the founders and senior decision-makers.
- Real opportunity to grow as the sales team expands.
- The chance to join an Australian energy SaaS business at an early stage of growth.
Additional information
The team is small, so the role will have real influence. For the right person, there is significant scope to take ownership of a major part of the sales function and help shape the next phase of the business.
Application note
The company is looking for someone who genuinely understands the energy market, knows how to create opportunities, and wants to help build a serious technology business. Recruitment agencies are asked not to contact the company about this position, as hiring is being handled directly.
