Job description
Role overview
PUMA is looking for a commercially focused retail leader to oversee and grow its Oceania store network. Based in Cremorne, Victoria, this position is responsible for guiding the region’s retail business, improving the in-store experience, and supporting the brand’s direct-to-consumer growth across Australia and New Zealand.
The role sits at the centre of several functions, including operations, merchandising, marketing, and property. It is suited to someone who can balance day-to-day execution with long-term portfolio planning, while helping build a strong and adaptable retail organisation.
Key areas of ownership
You will be accountable for the overall performance of the Oceania retail channel, including commercial results, store standards, team capability, and future retail expansion. The position requires strong leadership across multiple store formats and close collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Set and deliver the retail operating approach across the store network.
- Raise standards for customer service, visual presentation, and brand execution.
- Maintain compliance, reduce loss, and improve operational efficiency.
- Work with logistics, payment, and service partners to support store operations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the retail leadership team.
- Support succession planning, skill development, and retention across the function.
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and ongoing improvement.
- Partner with merchandising on product range planning and open-to-buy strategy.
- Adjust assortment decisions based on store type, trading conditions, and market needs.
- Manage the balance between risk and opportunity to improve sales and margin performance.
- Translate brand campaigns into strong seasonal retail marketing execution.
- Maintain global visual merchandising standards while adapting them locally.
- Create a consistent and memorable in-store brand experience.
- Lead store expansion, refurbishments, and pipeline planning across Oceania.
- Negotiate leases and manage relationships with landlords.
- Oversee store design, fit-out, and delivery to global standards.
- Own sales, margin, and EBIT performance, along with budget and forecast management.
- Shape the long-term retail roadmap across full-price and outlet formats.
- Coordinate with wholesale and ecommerce teams to support a unified market strategy.
What success looks like
Performance in this role will be measured through commercial and operational outcomes, including sales growth, gross margin, profitability, store productivity, conversion, customer experience, brand consistency, and the strength of the leadership team.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate is an experienced retail executive who has delivered results in fast-moving, brand-led environments. You should be comfortable leading teams, improving store performance, and scaling retail operations with discipline and commercial clarity.
- More than 10 years of retail experience, including senior leadership responsibility.
- Experience in sports, fashion, or lifestyle retail.
- Strong knowledge of retail operations, P&L ownership, and store network management.
- Solid commercial understanding of merchandising, planning, and inventory control.
- Exposure to company-owned and/or franchise retail models.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders across a matrixed organisation.
