Overview

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) seeks highly motivated Ghanaian professionals with strong leadership and communication skills to fill the role of Head, Public Affairs. This role demands a strategic thinker who is eager to drive impactful communication initiatives and manage key stakeholder relations effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute comprehensive strategic communication plans to advance the Association's objectives.
  • Manage and coordinate all media-related activities for the Association.
  • Provide training to regional, district, and local officers on effective media handling techniques.
  • Continuously monitor daily media coverage and promptly address any issues affecting the Association through strategic responses.
  • Act as editor-in-chief for all internal publicity documents and audiovisual content.
  • Maintain and regularly update the Association’s website to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Oversee and evaluate the performance of direct reports within the team.
  • Undertake other assignments as delegated by the General Secretary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A master's degree in Communications, Public Policy, Public Relations, International Relations, or closely related fields from an accredited institution.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in public affairs, public relations, government relations, media relations, or strategic communications.
  • Age requirement: between 40 and 55 years.
  • Demonstrated success in influencing public policy and managing complex stakeholder environments.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong expertise in media relations and handling high-stakes communications.
  • Must successfully pass a competitive selection interview process.
  • Professional certification from the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (Associate Member or higher) or equivalent is beneficial.
  • Being a professional teacher and member of GNAT in good standing is an advantage.
  • Candidates from Ghana Education Service should hold the rank of Assistant Director I or higher, in addition to the qualifications mentioned.
  • Current GNAT staff, teaching or non-teaching, with the required qualifications must have at least three years of service within the organization.
