About Cara Care

Cara Care is a prominent German digital therapeutics company, now part of Bayer, combining a fast-paced health tech startup environment with the scale and credibility of a global healthcare leader. The company creates DiGA-registered products that produce clinical outcomes for patients and integrate deeply with the German healthcare system. Their goal is to lead the digital care category by blending evidence-based medicine, superb user engagement, and robust compliant technology, while shaping how digital therapeutics integrate with national health infrastructure.

Role Overview

We seek a Head of Product & Technology to join immediately and act as a vital member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Managing Director. This role involves complete ownership of the product and technology strategy across our DiGA solutions for IBS and GERD, including our R&D portfolio. The focus is to deliver a clinically effective, user-first, compliant, and scalable digital therapeutics platform that cements Cara Care's place as a digital care leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead product and technology vision, roadmap, prioritization, and execution for current and future digital therapeutic products.
  • Manage full product lifecycle from discovery, delivery, optimization, user engagement, to measurable patient outcomes.
  • Define engineering architecture spanning mobile/web frontend, backend services, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, security, and integrations.
  • Develop data and AI capabilities, including analytics, personalization, automation, experimentation, and responsible AI features.
  • Translate clinical, regulatory, reimbursement, privacy, and security mandates into practical product and technology solutions.
  • Ensure software-as-a-medical-device lifecycle compliance including risk management, documentation, change control, audit readiness, and post-market vigilance.
  • Establish operating models, delivery rhythms, decision frameworks, and ownership across Product, Engineering, Design, and Data/AI teams.
  • Lead team building, coaching, hiring, and development of a high-performing, accountable, and learning-driven organization.
  • Manage senior stakeholders inside Cara Care, Bayer, external partners, healthcare stakeholders, and infrastructure initiatives.

Success Metrics for the First Year

  • Alignment of product and technology roadmap with business, clinical, regulatory, and patient goals.
  • Enhanced predictability, scalability, and transparency in engineering delivery with clear ownership.
  • Robust platform foundation supporting multiple indications, integrations, and compliant evolution.
  • Improved product engagement, therapy adherence, prescription activation, and patient outcomes through data-driven iteration.
  • Teams equipped with well-defined roles, decision authority, and paths for growth, operating swiftly and responsibly in regulated settings.
  • Preparedness for audits, certifications, security evaluations, and quality standards by proactive design rather than remediation.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven senior leadership in product and/or technology roles at head or VP level with responsibility for strategy, roadmap, delivery, and team performance.
  • Demonstrated product expertise in developing consumer- or patient-facing digital products yielding measurable engagement, clinical outcomes, and business impact.
  • Strong technical knowledge of modern software architectures including mobile/web frontends, backend services, APIs, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, cybersecurity, and data platforms.
  • Experience navigating regulated environments, balancing speed, quality, compliance, privacy, safety, and audit readiness.
  • Outstanding leadership in people management, talent acquisition, coaching, and organizational growth across Product, Engineering, Design, and Data/AI functions.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic ownership approach with excellent communication skills to provide clarity in complex contexts.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with DiGA, digital therapeutics, SaMD, MDR Class I/IIa, ISO/QMS systems, TR-03161, GDPR or similar healthcare regulations.
  • Knowledge of German healthcare processes, prescription workflows, healthcare professional interactions, reimbursement mechanisms, Gematik/ePA/eVO, or interoperability standards like EUDI Wallet.
  • Skill in developing data-driven and AI-enabled features such as personalization, recommendations, automation, analytics, and experimentation platforms.
  • Background in working within or alongside large enterprises while retaining entrepreneurial agility and product focus.

Work Environment and Conditions

At Cara Care, you will collaborate with a passionate interdisciplinary team comprising physicians, researchers, developers, product specialists, and people experts all focused on making a meaningful difference in patients' lives. Benefits

  • Competitive and fair salary with regular disbursements and necessary technology resources.
  • Engaging, multidisciplinary, and supportive team environment, including regular onsite team activities.
  • Remote-first work policy allowing you to work from your preferred location, including home or Berlin office.
  • Generous vacation allowance featuring 30 days off annually: 26 vacation days plus 4 additional mental health days.
  • Flexible working hours that enable you to design your workday schedule to fit personal preferences.
  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact where your ideas are valued and directly influence outcomes.
