Role Overview
The Head of the Defender Business Unit will lead the strategic direction and overall success of the unit. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position manages cross-functional Sales, Product, Professional Services, Support, and Customer Engagement teams to drive growth, enhance customer outcomes, improve operations, and ensure the unit evolves with the courts' needs. The position emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement to maximize value for both customers and the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the Business Unit's overall performance including profitability, revenue growth, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and implement the Business Unit strategy aligned with the company’s vision in partnership with the CEO.
- Manage and coordinate Product, Customer Lifecycle, and Customer Growth Scrum teams to meet Business Unit goals.
- Enhance operational efficiency by streamlining processes and promoting product-led implementation approaches.
- Contribute to product strategy based on client needs, market trends, and objectives.
- Set priorities and make tradeoff decisions across teams to maximize business and customer value.
- Track financial and operational metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and take action to boost profitability and growth.
- Build and maintain strong executive relationships with customers and act as sponsor for major strategic accounts.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to grow market presence and customer engagement.
- Ensure successful delivery of implementations, support, and success outcomes through cross-functional teamwork.
- Represent the Business Unit at industry events, with partners, and customers.
- Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
- Lead autonomously while maintaining close collaboration with the CEO through regular strategic reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline; MBA or similar leadership experience preferred.
- Progressive leadership roles within enterprise software, justice technology, government technology, or public sector technology fields.
- Proven record of managing a business, product line, or cross-functional unit accountable for growth and performance.
- Experience balancing business strategy, customer needs, operational excellence, and financial management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead Agile cross-functional teams effectively.
- Strong financial literacy managing budgets, profitability, resources, and operations.
- Preferred experience working with executive customers and senior government or public sector officials.
- Knowledge of court operations, judicial workflows, or the justice market is highly desirable.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation skills, and capability to align diverse groups on shared goals.
- History of driving organizational transformation, continuous enhancements, and achieving measurable outcomes.

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range $160,000 - $200,000 USD (Logan, Los Angeles, Remote US) and $155,000 - $190,000 CAD (Victoria, Canada).
