Position Overview
The role of Head of Operational Performance & Intelligence is a senior leadership position within the Chief Operations Office at Beaumont Hospital, located in Dublin 9, Ireland. This role focuses on hospital operations, providing strategic support to the Chief Operations Officer and senior leaders to enhance operational efficiency, patient flow, capacity management, and service planning. While overseeing the Management Information Team and data intelligence, the primary objective remains to equip operational leaders with actionable insights to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of precise and current operational data internally and to external organizations, identifying risks, variances, and improvement possibilities.
- Lead the production of monthly hospital performance reports and executive summaries.
- Coordinate reporting for Clinical, Operational & Performance meetings.
- Track organizational performance against local, regional, and national KPIs.
- Facilitate escalation procedures and performance reviews through detailed operational analysis.
- Analyze patient flow, scheduled and unscheduled care, capacity, utilization, and productivity metrics.
- Assist the COO and Executive Management Team in planning, executing, and evaluating new models of care and services.
- Provide analytical support for business cases, service proposals, and strategic projects.
- Conduct demand, activity, capacity, and utilization studies to aid in service planning.
- Support the monitoring of benefits realized from major operational projects.
- Contribute to the formulation and assessment of strategic and operational plans.
- Lead the Management Information Team ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
- Manage validation and interpretation of hospital activity and performance data.
- Serve as the organizational authority on performance definitions and reporting standards.
- Develop data quality assurance frameworks and performance governance policies.
- Collaborate with ICT, Digital Health, and reporting teams for dashboard and reporting tool development.
- Maintain the national Hospital Bed Management System (HBMS) up to date.
- Ensure management information aligns with operational and strategic decision-making needs.
- Provide leadership to the Management Information Team and cultivate strong relationships across clinical and administrative departments.
- Present complex operational information to executive and senior management bodies.
- Enhance organizational capability in interpreting and using performance data, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Primary degree in a health-related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in fields such as Healthcare Management, Health Informatics, Health Services Research, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Operational Management.
- At least 5 years of experience within an acute hospital setting.
- Minimum 3 years of senior leadership and staff management experience in a complex healthcare environment.
- Clinical background and experience in health services management are preferred.
- Proven experience in supporting operational performance management in acute hospitals and preparing executive performance reports.
- Strong analytical skills in healthcare activity, capacity, utilization, and performance data.
- Experience in service planning, development, and organizational improvement initiatives is valued.
- Expertise in leading organizational performance frameworks.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools and healthcare information systems, especially Power BI, iPMS, Orbis.
- Experience validating complex healthcare data and collaborating with ICT and digital health teams.
- Intellectual capability to provide structure, vision, and data governance leadership.
- Ability to self-manage and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

- The appointment will be made according to Grade VIII pay scale (€83911 to €101207) consistent with government pay policies.
