Role Overview

The Head of Mortgage Capital Markets plays a critical leadership role reporting directly to the VP of Capital Markets. This position requires a hands-on leader tasked with formulating and implementing funding strategies to advance Neo’s mortgage business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Create and uphold a best execution playbook regarding mortgage sales to investors.
  • Manage allocation of funded and committed mortgages across Neo’s investor network.
  • Lead new lending program initiatives encompassing strategy and product development.
  • Develop and enforce mortgage policies, including capital management, hedging, and leverage policies.
  • Design and guide operational oversight of daily funding processes ensuring strong cash controls and scalable funding frameworks.
  • Oversee allocation of Canadian Mortgage Bonds (CMB) and Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) in line with company policies.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of investor eligibility criteria and CMHC’s MBS program guide; communicate updates within Neo.
  • Analyze MBS and CMB spread trends and refine best execution strategies accordingly.
  • Manage mortgage buybacks, including devising strategies to maximize profitability from buyback liquidations.
  • Direct hedging activities related to funded mortgages before their sale.
  • Act as the principal liaison with mortgage insurers and coordinate bulk mortgage portfolio insurance arrangements.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of progressive experience within Canadian financial institutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related discipline; CFA designation or advanced degree is advantageous.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical capabilities with a strong data-driven approach enabling the translation of market insights into impactful business actions.
  • Proven ability to excel in fast-paced, technical work environments while managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, resilience, and adaptability to dynamic, shifting workplace demands.
