About the role

Virgin Australia is looking for a senior marketing leader to own the strategy and roadmap for the airline’s marketing technology environment across Virgin Australia and Velocity. In this newly created position, you will act as the key marketing partner to Technology, helping decide what gets built, why it matters, and how it improves customer experience and commercial performance.

The role covers platforms such as Adobe Experience Platform, Tealium CDP, marketing automation, and AI-enabled capabilities. You will work with leaders across Marketing, Technology, Data, Digital, Customer, and Velocity to turn technology capability into measurable business outcomes. The position reports to the Chief Marketing & Sustainability Officer and is based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

What you will do

  • Set the direction and delivery roadmap for marketing technology across Virgin Australia and Velocity.
  • Represent the marketing function in technology discussions and influence platform decisions.
  • Prioritise technology investments so they deliver the greatest business and customer value.
  • Translate marketing strategy into platform, data, and technical requirements.
  • Work closely with agile technology teams to shape priorities and support successful delivery.
  • Use customer data to improve personalisation, segmentation, journeys, and loyalty outcomes.
  • Build strong business cases and make commercially sound investment decisions.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders and executive leaders to align plans and drive outcomes.
  • Communicate complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support the use of technology to create stronger customer experiences and better commercial results.

What we are looking for

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing strategy, marketing technology, or a similar area, including senior leadership exposure.
  • Strong working knowledge of marketing technology platforms such as Adobe Experience Platform, Adobe Marketing Cloud, customer data platforms like Tealium or Segment, and marketing automation tools.
  • Ability to convert marketing goals into clear data, platform, and technology requirements.
  • Experience working with technology teams in agile environments.
  • Understanding of how customer data supports personalisation, segmentation, loyalty, and journey optimisation.
  • Commercial mindset with experience preparing business cases and ranking competing technology priorities.
  • Proven ability to lead collaboratively and influence stakeholders across marketing, technology, data, and executive teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
  • Strong data-driven and customer-first approach.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience in aviation, travel, retail, financial services, or loyalty-led businesses will be considered an advantage.
