Job description

About Hometree

Established in 2015, Hometree has rapidly grown to become a leading challenger in the UK home services sector. Our offerings include home cover protecting essential systems, renewable installations such as solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps, along with financing options to make green living affordable. Our recent acquisition of OVO Energy's Home Services division — including the trusted CORGI HomePlan and HomeHeat brands — marks a pivotal growth phase, positioning us among the UK's top home service providers.

Key accomplishments include:

  • Third-largest home cover provider in the UK.
  • Completion of seven strategic acquisitions expanding our scope across financing, home cover, and energy solutions.
  • Coverage of over 500,000 homes nationwide.
  • Employment of more than 550 dedicated professionals.

Role Overview

We are searching for a proactive Head of IT and Systems to oversee the daily stability, security, and scalability of our internal technology infrastructure. This role combines hands-on involvement in technical tasks like troubleshooting and device configuration with the strategic planning necessary to scale IT operations. You will directly handle device management across Mac and Windows systems, lead major projects such as Google Workspace migrations, and manage relationships with external IT providers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain end-user devices across mixed Mac and Windows environments using MDM tools like Kandji, Jamf, Entra ID, Intune, and Active Directory for secure and compliant device onboarding and offboarding.
  • Lead complex system projects hands-on, including Google Workspace migrations or restructures, ensuring minimal business disruption.
  • Oversee partnerships with MSPs and technology vendors, enforcing SLAs, service standards, and costs.
  • Administer core IT systems including identity and access management, SaaS applications, security tools, and general infrastructure.
  • Ensure fundamental IT security measures like device compliance, access control policies, patching, and overall hygiene.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Information Security on compliance frameworks such as Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001, GDPR data governance, and incident response procedures.
  • Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans focusing on backup strategies and reducing single points of failure.
  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding process to guarantee secure and ready-to-use equipment and access for all employees.
  • Document and formalize IT processes to transition from reactive support to proactive infrastructure management as the organization grows.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for IT challenges, working closely with various departments to understand requirements and set priorities.
  • Control IT budgeting, procurement, and contracts by forecasting expenses, negotiating terms, and balancing cost against value.
  • Establish and track IT performance indicators like device compliance rates, ticket resolution times, and onboarding durations to provide operational transparency.
  • Manage office IT and network infrastructure including WiFi, AV for meeting rooms, and technology setup for office expansion.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated expertise in Apple/Mac device management using MDM platforms such as Kandji or Jamf.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows environments and Microsoft technologies including Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, and Active Directory.
  • Proven experience leading Google Workspace administrative projects such as migrations or restructures.
  • Competency in managing MSP relationships and holding outsourced IT teams accountable for service delivery and SLA adherence.
  • Broad systems administration skills spanning identity/access management, SaaS applications, networking, and endpoint security.
  • Comfortable working at a hands-on technical level within a fast-paced, lean team dynamic.
  • Previous experience scaling IT operations in a growing enterprise environment where procedural frameworks are evolving.
  • Excellent communication skills suitable for translating technical details to non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Ownership mentality with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving IT challenges.
  • Familiarity with UK security and compliance standards such as Cyber Essentials, GDPR, and data governance best practices.
  • Experience developing backup and disaster recovery solutions for business-critical systems.

Additional Advantages

  • Exposure or certification related to ISO 27001 or formal information security management systems.
  • Professional IT certifications like Jamf Certified, Microsoft Certified, or ITIL are valued but not mandatory.
  • Skills in scripting/automation (e.g., Shell, PowerShell) for streamlining administrative tasks.
  • Experience working in regulated industries or high-velocity scale-up environments.
  • Capability managing IT infrastructure across multiple or expanding office sites.

Recruitment Process

  • Introductory phone conversation with Talent Acquisition to discuss role suitability (~30 minutes).
  • In-depth technical interview with the CTO (~1 hour).
  • Values alignment interview with Head of Finance and Director of People & Culture (~45 minutes).

Employee Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and an additional day off for your birthday.
  • Flexible hybrid working model with two team days weekly at the London-based, dog-friendly office.
  • Complimentary boiler and home emergency cover through Hometree plus 40% discount for friends and family.
  • Discounted gym memberships across 100+ UK locations and access to wellness, fitness, and nutrition applications.
  • £300 allowance for home office setup.
  • Mental health and wellbeing support via Oliva platform.
  • Menopause support through Stella, including family access.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme availability.
  • Frequent team social events including summer and winter celebrations.

Regulatory and Workplace Commitments
