About EirGrid
EirGrid operates as the Transmission System Operator for Ireland's electricity system, ensuring safe and reliable power delivery from generation to consumption points. They oversee real-time power system operations and the wholesale electricity market, balancing supply and demand every moment. EirGrid strengthens the electricity network through interconnectors, transmission planning, and infrastructure upgrades to meet growing demands and aid the transition to a low-carbon future. They are also expanding operations to include Ireland's offshore transmission grid, enabling offshore wind energy development.
Role Overview
The Head of IT Corporate Applications, reporting to the Director of Technology Services, will lead and evolve EirGrid's Corporate IT Applications portfolio. This senior leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction, stability, and ongoing enhancements of the application ecosystem supporting EirGrid's corporate operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a high-performing team covering Corporate Applications, IT Service Management, Release Management, and IT Service Desk functions.
- Ensure availability, stability, performance, and continuous optimization of over 100 corporate applications after deployment.
- Collaborate with business function leaders, application owners, and delivery partners to define application roadmaps and lifecycle management.
- Maintain operational accountability post go-live, driving improvements and service optimization.
- Oversee Release Management to ensure controlled, predictable, and low-risk implementation of changes.
- Promote a customer-centric approach ensuring services meet business needs and critical timelines.
- Establish robust governance, including service reviews, readiness criteria, and assurance with stakeholders.
- Champion continuous improvement and innovation to enhance service quality, efficiency, and reliability.
- Manage talent acquisition, development, and succession planning to maintain application management capability.
- Coordinate with Vendor Management for license compliance, audit readiness, and sustainable commercial arrangements.
- Hold budget responsibility for Corporate Applications and related services to optimize service quality and resilience.
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership in managing corporate application services within complex enterprises, including in-house or managed service environments.
- Strong strategic and analytical skills to convert business goals into IT initiatives and successful deliveries.
- Expertise in IT Service Management with experience establishing consistent processes across teams.
- Ability to engage senior stakeholders to influence application roadmaps and investment alignment.
- Experience managing third-party vendors and delivery partners, including contract governance and audit preparedness.
- Financial acumen to balance costs, risks, resilience, and service outcomes effectively.
- Deep knowledge of operational risk, governance, and compliance with practical control implementation.
- Excellent leadership skills directing teams both directly and across matrix or multi-vendor models, fostering a performance-driven culture.
