Role Overview
An established employer in Nairobi is looking for a seasoned Head of Investment to take charge of the investment function, steer portfolio expansion, and support long-term value creation. This is a senior leadership position suited to a professional with deep experience in portfolio oversight, financial analysis, investment planning, stakeholder relations, and capital raising.
Core Responsibilities
The role covers strategy, portfolio oversight, analysis, and leadership across the investment function.
- Create and implement investment strategies that support the organization’s wider goals.
- Source, assess, and pursue attractive investment opportunities across sectors and asset classes.
- Manage investment portfolios to improve returns while keeping risk within acceptable limits.
- Track portfolio performance and recommend course corrections where needed.
- Study market movements, economic conditions, and new opportunity areas.
- Carry out financial analysis, market research, sector reviews, and business valuations.
- Build financial models, investment memorandums, feasibility studies, and business cases.
- Lead due diligence for investments, acquisitions, and strategic alliances.
- Evaluate investment risks and brief senior leaders on findings and actions.
- Maintain strong working relationships with investors, banks, regulators, and strategic partners.
- Support fundraising and other capital mobilization efforts.
- Represent the organization at investment events, conferences, and key stakeholder meetings.
- Develop partnerships that contribute to growth objectives.
- Ensure investment activities follow internal policy, governance expectations, and regulatory rules.
- Design frameworks and controls for investment risk management.
- Monitor and reduce investment-related risks.
- Work closely with finance, legal, operations, and commercial teams on transactions.
- Lead, coach, and grow the investment team.
- Set KPIs and performance goals for the function.
- Encourage a high-performance culture built on accountability and innovation.
- Prepare investment updates and strategic recommendations for executive leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Investment Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field. A master’s degree or professional credentials such as CFA, CPA, ACCA, CISI, or an equivalent qualification will be considered an added advantage. The position calls for 5 to 8 years of progressive experience in investment management, private equity, asset management, corporate finance, or financial analysis. Prior responsibility for managing investment portfolios and leading investment transactions is essential. A solid grasp of financial markets, valuation techniques, and risk management principles is required.
