Job description

About the Company

Moniepoint is a comprehensive financial services platform in Africa focused on enabling businesses and their customers to access smooth payment, banking, credit, and management solutions. In 2023, Moniepoint achieved a transaction volume of $182 billion and stands as Nigeria's leading merchant acquirer.

Role Purpose

This leadership position is responsible for creating and overseeing the Group-wide FP&A framework, methodologies, and reporting standards. The goal is to provide the Group's executive management with a unified and dependable overview of financial results and outlook across its subsidiaries and business units, including Moniepoint Nigeria, Moniepoint Kenya, MonieWorld, and Moniepoint Technologies.

This role emphasizes framework design and consolidation rather than handling daily operational finance tasks within business units. While several subsidiaries operate their own independent FP&A teams managing local budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, this role sets the overarching Group standards within which those teams operate and consolidates their outputs. Where subsidiaries or functions lack dedicated FP&A personnel, this position steps in to perform those tasks directly. The intended outcome is a singular Group framework implemented locally where feasible, without redundant effort.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain the Group-wide FP&A framework, including forecasting structures, budgeting processes, and management reporting standards applicable across all entities, including those with independent FP&A teams.
  • Aggregate forecasts and financial data from individual entities and business units into a consolidated Group-level profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow report, incorporating currency conversion options and intercompany eliminations.
  • Lead the annual Group budgeting cycle by managing templates, timelines, challenge sessions, and board approval processes without assuming direct responsibility for local budget preparation by each business unit's finance team.
  • Develop and regularly update the Group forecast extending through 2026-2028 and beyond, reconciling it monthly with actual results and providing clear variance explanations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Group Financial Controller to ensure consistent reconciliation between actual figures, consolidation, and forecasts within monthly reporting deadlines.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly consolidated reporting cycles for management accounts, board presentations, and investor-standard reports at the Group level.
  • Create and sustain a unified Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and unit economics framework, ensuring its consistent application across all entities regardless of local FP&A resources.
  • Coordinate with business unit CFOs and finance leads to act as the standard-setter and consolidator, allowing local teams to handle day-to-day execution.
  • Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analyses to support strategic Group decisions such as market entry, capital raising, expansion, and licensing initiatives.
  • Establish and enforce best practices in FP&A methodologies, including model structure, formatting, approval processes, and version control across the Group.
  • Manage and develop FP&A analysts responsible for subsidiaries and markets without dedicated resources, as well as within central shared services.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

  • Between 8 to 10+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or investment banking, including hands-on experience developing forecasting frameworks from the ground up.
  • Demonstrated expertise in consolidating multi-entity and multi-currency financial forecasts and management accounts.
  • Professional background in banking, fintech, or similarly regulated, fast-paced growth environments.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills at an architect level with Excel, capable of managing complex models spanning multiple entities and currencies.
  • Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent.
  • A proven track record of effectively leading senior finance roles across different time zones and remote settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in emerging African or other high-growth fintech or banking sectors.
  • Prior involvement with Group level board and investor reporting.
  • Familiarity with financial planning and consolidation software tools like NetSuite, Aleph, Pigment, or similar, beyond Excel.
  • Experience establishing FP&A functions or frameworks during company scale-up phases, including clear delineation of Group versus local team responsibilities.

Personal Attributes

  • Systematic thinker focused on building robust frameworks instead of quick fixes.
  • Comfortable managing and communicating complex multi-entity, multi-currency financial perspectives to CFOs and boards.
  • Strong belief in enabling local FP&A teams through clear standards rather than taking over their responsibilities.
  • High standards for data accuracy and reconciliation, willing to challenge inconsistent figures until resolved.
  • Effective people manager with the ability to lead analysts towards consistent, high-quality output.
  • Clear and precise written communication mirroring the structure of financial models built.
  • Capabilities to manage group-wide finance processes proactively and remotely without direct physical presence.

Success Metrics

  • Monthly Group forecasts reconciled accurately to actuals with variance explanations within acceptable limits.
  • Timely delivery of management, board, and investor reports every cycle without last-minute revisions.
  • Budget cycles completed adhering to schedules with business unit approvals and no unexpected off-cycle changes.
  • Business unit finance leaders consistently utilizing the Group model and standards as their operating framework instead of alternative systems.
  • CFO and Group CEO regard FP&A outputs as the definitive source for informed decision-making.

Recruitment Process

  • Initial telephone screening with a recruiter.
  • Interview with the hiring manager.
  • Panel interview with existing finance lead personnel.
  • Behavioral and technical interview with an Executive team member.
