Job description
Role overview
QuantumDiamonds is hiring a Head of Finance to build and lead the finance function for its next growth stage. This position owns finance across the board, creating the financial backbone for a scaling deep-tech hardware business. The scope covers reporting, controlling, treasury, public funding, and the finance infrastructure needed for worldwide equipment shipments.
Reporting to the CEO, you will partner with the leadership team, board members, investors, and external advisors to define financial direction and ensure strong operational execution. The role is very hands-on and is intended to grow into a broader leadership path. Over the first 12 to 18 months, you are expected to put scalable processes in place, improve governance and controls, build a high-performing finance team, and establish the base for international expansion and future funding rounds. For the right candidate, this can develop into a CFO track as the company scales.
About QuantumDiamonds
Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from TU Munich, QuantumDiamonds applies quantum sensors to capture 3D current maps inside multi-layer chips in a matter of milliseconds. The international team of more than 60 people includes physicists, engineers, data scientists, and other specialists who work directly with leading semiconductor manufacturers to support chip debugging and speed up yield analysis. The company is backed by strong deep-tech investors, semiconductor experts, and public programs, and is moving from breakthrough innovation into scale.
What you will do
- Run the finance function from end to end, covering accounting, controlling, treasury, tax, compliance, and finance operations.
- Prepare monthly and annual reports in line with HGB, while developing IFRS readiness for future audits, financing, and international growth.
- Own budgeting, forecasting, cash planning, and finance business partnering across R&D, manufacturing, commercial, and corporate teams.
- Set up the financial structure needed for global capital equipment deliveries, including multiple currencies, FX handling, hedging, export-related matters, and cross-border invoicing.
- Manage large European Chips Act funding and other public funding programs, including reporting, cost statements, audits, and compliance with funding bodies.
- Oversee treasury and liquidity planning, including venture debt, financing work, and cash management across commercial and public funding cycles.
- Support fundraising, board reporting, investor communication, and strategic financial planning together with the CEO.
- Design scalable processes for order handling, revenue recognition, procurement, and internal controls suited to a global capital equipment business.
- Guide the evolution of the ERP landscape and finance systems to enable stronger reporting, automation, and efficient operations.
- Build and grow the finance team as the company expands, while strengthening business partnering across the organization.
- Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, banks, funding agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Lead team development by defining ownership, building capabilities, and scaling the function over time.
What we are looking for
You should bring senior finance leadership experience from deep-tech, hardware, semiconductor, industrial technology, or another capital-intensive setting. The ideal background includes building and scaling finance functions in fast-growing businesses, with a mix of strategic thinking and practical execution.
Experience with European public funding programs, such as the European Chips Act or similar schemes, is important, including reporting, audit support, and compliance work. You should also have a strong command of HGB and practical exposure to IFRS, ideally in situations involving fundraising, audits, or expansion into new markets.
This role also calls for experience with capital equipment or project-based businesses that have long sales cycles, milestone billing, revenue recognition challenges, and complex customer contracts. Strong treasury experience is needed as well, including liquidity planning, multi-currency operations, FX management, and financing tools such as venture debt.
You should be comfortable working with executive leadership, boards, investors, and external partners on strategic decisions. Experience with ERP implementation or scaling finance systems in a growing company is valuable, with Odoo being a plus. A collaborative leadership style, the ability to develop people, and an entrepreneurial mindset are all important. The team is looking for someone who can grow into a CFO role as the business scales. Fluent English is required, and German is considered an advantage.
