Job description

About the company

bunch is creating the financial and operational foundation for private markets. The company combines secure data infrastructure, AI-enabled workflows, and specialist fund services to help modern fund operations run on one integrated system.

The business recently completed a Series B round, is pursuing acquisitions, operates through several entities in different geographies, and is building toward a Series C and a future exit. The finance function is being rebuilt from the ground up, and this role will shape it for the long term.

You will be the most senior finance hire and take full ownership of finance across a high-growth, venture-backed fintech environment. The role reports to the General Counsel and works closely with the founders and leadership team.

What you will do

  • Lead the entire budgeting process from start to finish, including top-down and bottom-up planning with founders, department leaders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Run monthly budget variance reviews, manage quarterly budget control, evaluate procurement and vendor requests, and turn business priorities into financial plans with measurable KPIs and milestones.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable cash forecast model and provide regular updates on burn and runway.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly board materials, present results to investors, and respond to questions on performance and key metrics.
  • Build the analytical framework expected in a later-stage company, including unit economics, cohort analysis, and profitability modelling.
  • Establish Finance as the central source of truth for financial and operational KPIs, improve data quality across teams such as Sales and Analytics, and support commercial strategy through pricing analysis.
  • Hire and grow the finance function over time.
  • Take charge of all finance work related to fundraising rounds, including modelling, due diligence coordination, and investor communication, with the immediate objective of preparing the company for Series C.
  • Manage financial due diligence for acquisitions, create M&A models, support target assessment, and oversee Finance’s role in post-merger integration.
  • Build relationships with banks, strengthen the company’s network across Germany and Europe, and support acquisition financing when required.
  • Own treasury and banking matters, including liquidity optimisation, treasury policy design, and mitigation of financial risks such as currency exposure through measures like hedging where needed.
  • Lead ERP system scoping and implementation across the group.
  • Oversee existing non-dilutive funding disbursements and manage future applications for grants and other funding opportunities in relevant markets.
  • Drive audit processes from the finance side and coordinate with external tax advisors and accountants.
  • Act as the main contact for external bookkeeping, accounting, and tax advisory partners, including cost reviews and optimisation efforts.
  • Set a high standard for the team, streamline and automate processes, and build a finance function that actively supports company growth.

About you

  • You bring at least 6 years of progressive experience in an in-house finance role, ideally in SaaS or a venture-backed setting, or through PE, management/financial consulting, or investment banking, plus at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • You have hands-on experience with VC-backed financing rounds after Series B.
  • You have built financial models from the ground up and are comfortable working with multi-entity and multi-currency structures.
  • You are familiar with accounting, billing, and spend tools such as DATEV, Stripe, Moss, and Spendesk, as well as ERP systems like NetSuite.
  • You have owned forecasting and budgeting cycles directly, not only supported them.
  • You are comfortable being hands-on now and growing into a more strategic VP-level role later, with a strong bias toward building rather than only managing.
  • You combine strong technical finance expertise with commercial judgement, executive presence, and the ability to represent the company confidently with investors and external partners.
  • You can explain complex financial information in a clear and accessible way for non-finance audiences.
  • You are proactive, practical, and focused on finding solutions.
  • Experience in the fund industry or fintech is an advantage, but not required.
  • You are comfortable working in environments with ambiguity and limited existing process.
  • You speak English fluently, and German at B2/C1+ level is strongly preferred.

Workplace and benefits

  • Work with a varied, driven team that values ownership, energy, and collaboration.
  • Join a network of people focused on investment and private markets.
  • Enjoy flexible hours and a hybrid setup with three office days per week.
  • Receive four calendar weeks of remote work each year.
  • Get 28 vacation days, 2 company days, and local public holidays.
  • Be offered a competitive compensation package.
  • Use a strong tech and work setup with everything required to do the job well.

Hiring process

  • People team interview: 30 minutes to assess mutual fit.
  • Deep dive interview: 45 minutes focused on collaboration, ownership, and culture.
  • Case study: 90 to 120 minutes to evaluate technical capability.
  • Two to three stakeholder interviews: 30 minutes each with founders and key stakeholders.

Additional information

bunch is building the operating infrastructure for the next generation of private markets. The company combines AI-powered automation with regulatory expertise to replace fragmented spreadsheets and manual work with one platform across the fund lifecycle, designed for private markets that are moving toward $32 trillion in assets under management.

The company values people who want real ownership of difficult problems and who care about building infrastructure that genuinely matters to users.
