Job description
Role Overview
This is a senior finance leadership opportunity with an international general insurance group that has its European headquarters in Ireland and operates across more than 20 countries. The business has recently reached an important strategic milestone and is looking for a Head of Finance to help shape the next phase of its finance function.
The role sits in Greater Dublin and reports to the Finance Director. You will lead a finance team of more than 10 people, bringing strong leadership, mentoring, and direction to the function. A strategic approach, combined with the ability to guide both the current operating model and its future development, will be essential.
The position requires a broad, “helicopter view” of finance, with responsibility for supporting reporting, budgeting, strategic and operational planning, and change initiatives across the function.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting delivered to the Group, as well as quarterly and annual submissions to the regulator.
- Lead the production of monthly management reporting, ensuring key financial indicators and trends are clearly identified and communicated to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Oversee financial planning activities including budgeting, forecasting, projections, and reforecasting.
- Drive the external audit process across both statutory and regulatory audits.
- Manage all fiscal and tax reporting requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive management information packs and presentation materials for committees.
- Act as a sponsor for selected finance projects and monitor progress against agreed reporting milestones.
- Prepare annual statutory reports in accordance with IFRS.
- Lead, coach, and develop the team, while building strong career pathways and succession plans.
- Oversee treasury operations and ensure appropriate controls are maintained.
- Monitor investment activity to confirm alignment with investment strategy.
- Review and guide the investment approach to help optimise returns.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will ideally be ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualified, with around 10+ years of post-qualification experience in insurance. Of that, at least 5 years should be at senior management or head-of level.
You will need a strong grasp of the regulatory requirements affecting re/insurance businesses, along with the confidence to influence stakeholders and encourage collaborative working across teams.
Strong planning skills, the ability to prioritise effectively, and a track record of delivering both short- and long-term goals will be important. You should also bring a natural leadership style, excellent interpersonal ability, commercial awareness, and a practical, solutions-focused mindset.
